I've had a couple of House Geckos and a Berber Skink in the past as well. Possibly get something else in the future - a monitor would be nice :)

I am currently looking after a Gecko for someone.

It is possibly the most boring living thing in a tank that I have ever come across:
In the last day it has sat under a rock, come out and sat on top of the rock, sat under the rock again, and then in a late flurry of activity this evening it has come out and sat on top of the rock again.

(And I thought my life was boring).

The only remotely interesting thing going on in there are the cute lil' Crickets that are running about, having a good time and waiting to be eaten.

Tonight they are singing away with their lil' legs, calling out to each other, and I'm sat here with a glass of wine pretending I'm somewhere nice like Spain.

I have a realy phobia about snakes (I'm cringing just reading this thread)! I cannot understand why anyone would want one as a pet????

Leopard Geckos (very popular) and many others are nocturnal so granted they aren't going to do much in the day :)

I looked after a friends water dragon for a while and loved it. It used to sit on my knoee and watch TV with us and was just so cute. I really want one but not while i'm a student.

When people refer to having 'turtles' as pets, am I right in assuming that what they are actually referring to are Terrapins?

Used to have loads of giant african land snails, but the skink ate them all.

Prices range from under £20 up to whatever depending on what it is. Then there's the setup which again varies massively. Some are relatively easy to look after while others are very hard work. Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos are popular for people new to reptiles - go and have a word with the staff at the Snake Shop on Attercliffe Road for some info, advice etc and buy a book or two. Then see if it's something you want to get in to :)

Me too! Yet I'm strangely fascinated by them as well.

How on earth do they manage to move so fast, swim and climb trees with no limbs

its all about muscle power.................. snakes are 80% muscle and can use their muscle in ways we can only dream of hehehe.

I used to work with someone who had an Emperor Scorpion as a pet - big bugger it was too

We have a large green rat snake (right nasty bugger too), a lil Chestnut corn snake and we did have a house gecko, which I have to agree with a previous thread was incredibly boring-too small and fast to safely handle (realised this after two dramatic escape attempts) or sleeping under his bark.

Yeah they are more commonly called terrapins in Europe but they are turtles and there are hundreds of different types!

I have a turtle hatchling as a pet.
He is a peninsula cooter called jack! I had another, a hieroglyphic river cooter but he sadly passed away last month.

I think they make great pets

Just noticed this thread, I have a bearded dragon, corn snake, leopard gecko, egg-eating snake and I just got a baby gargoyle gecko. I'd like a bigger snake but it'll have to wait till I move and know I have enough room.

I'm moving to Sheffield next year so it'll be nice to get to know some local reptile fans.
