Can I ask a question?
Sorry if this has been covered previously but i`d like to know. There have been 8 attempted suicide bombers as far as I can tell recently in London, have any of them left video messages, letters for family, that sort of thing? If not they must be the only one`s who have not.If they have left communications will the contents be made public?Does any one know? The motivation involved might be enlightening.

That's a good point GaZaa, I'd not thought about it until I saw your post. I guess you're thinking about the suicide bombers particularly in Israel/Lebannon?

From my limited understanding of the suicide bombings in those areas, there is a much bigger network. set up over a long period of time - which I hope we don't have here. There, the network of people support, equip and video the bombers. I hope that over here there is much less support and the small minority work in limited numbers and are not that organised?

Yes , it's an interesting point you bring up.The only thing I can think of is that they assume their , "message " is so obvious that they don't need to leave one.
But , what IS the message ?
If there is one thing the 20th. century should have taught any combatant , it is that bombing alone not only achieves very little but it is usually counter-productive , in that it unites and hardens those who are being bombed--------unless you invade whilst they are still recovering from the first shock------and not always then.
Both the Germans and the Allies were under the mistaken impression that bombing would so demoralise a nation that they would become a , "walkover ". After the war when they interviewed and analysed the situation , they discovered that it usually stiffened the resolve of the population.
Time and time again , since then , bombing alone has tended to do just that. It gives the , "home " government something to rally the people around.
The Americans bombed North Vietnam unmercifully for years but it was the North who eventually occupied and took over South Vietnam. The I.R A. bombs , the bombs in Israel , the PKK bombs in Turkey , the ETA in Spain -----I'm sure there are more examples------all of them have failed miserably . When Germany used bombs against Poland , Holland ......etc.....in the 2nd. World War , they immediately followed it up with actual physical invasion.
Now unless the present terrorists are planning to occupy Britain and America ........et al....pretty soon , I just can't see what their aim is ?
Maybe they want the whole Middle East-Western oil set up to be toppled. I would guess they've as much chance of achieving that aim , at least in the next 50 years , as they have of making Osama bi Laden the next elected ruler of Israel.

Well, one of them - I think the guy they arrested in Rome - has said that his motivation was the presence of UK troops in Iraq rather than anything else.

If that's the case then he committed acts of treason, and should be tried accordingly. Should make the legal process a little easier.

Of course, that's THE answer to give for these guys as it allows them to inflict political damage on Blair. I'd not trust anything they said, to be honest. I don't believe that any valuable insights will be gained from the words of these people. Their actions speak loudly enough as a bunch of wannabe mass murderers, and the forensic evidence will tell the rest of the story that matters.

p.s.
To the above posting------I forgot to mention nuclear weapons. Now , on the only occasion that they've been used in warfare ,they WERE effective on their own , without an invasion , but nuclear weapons are a whole new problem.
Maybe their success in , "knocking out " a nation quickly is why we're so keen not to let any , "loose cannons " get hold of them.
