Suggestions for Mediterranean holiday destinations required.

Perhaps with a beach but not too fussed.
With places worth visiting nearby.
Good variety of food.
Chav free. :)
Not expensive, both getting there and when you are there.

Thinking of going in October, so somewhere that's pleasantly warm at that time of the year.

North side of Majorca seems to be promising but what do I know?

Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

seeing as you plan to go in October, how about getting your self to Athens, spend a night or two to see the sights.

Then head to the Port at Athens and do a little Island hopping

Will be cheap as chips that time of the year.

I'd recommend that too. The Greek islands are fantastic and will still be warm at that time of year (we were there last October).

In Malta you would have lots of warm sunshine, plenty to go and see, the buses are cheap (£1maltese .50 cents ) for a day pass, Lager £1.50 a pint beer from 50 cents a pint (local brew), but there aren't many sandy beaches. And it's very safe !

have a nice holiday where ever you go

I forgot to mention also that you can take sterling and change it there and you don't have to pay exchange rate , and you don't get ripped off !,

The governing authorities seem to favour Spain.

Somewhere the club 18-30s don't go.

Somewhere scenic but has a beach as well.

On the other hand, don't want to be in a crowd of wrinklies (no offence).:)

The wrinklies as you so nicely call them wouldn't take nearly three weeks to reply to your answers though. ;)

Greek Islands all the way. Just be choosy about the particular resort. Stalis on Kefalonia is excellent (or was a couple of years back anyway)!!

So, Greece is not so hot plumbingwise then.

Other 1/2 won't like that.

Seems Italy is v expensive and all but dead in October from what the glossy brochures seem to say - no dates in October listed.

Have been to the Algarve - could end up going there again but would like somewhere else.

Is there anywhere in Spain on the lines of Albufura? I.e., nice town, plenty to see and a beach with sand on it nearby?

What's the plumbing like in Cyprus? She mentioned Cyprus earlier so I thought I'd throw it in.

Sorry I didn't come back to the discussion earlier, thought no-one interested. Seems I'm wrong.

Anyone been on a Mediterranean cruise? Might be able to bag a cheap one nearer the time as an alternative. Quite fancy being driven about in a boat. But..... what are they like?

One of my favourite places in Spain is the village of Mijas (on the Costa del Sol - but don't let that put you off)!

You should be able to find some good deals in October, and it's still warm.

We usually book flights with BMI Baby from East Midlands Airport. If you do a search you can find out the best prices (usually cheaper midweek). We stay a couple of nights in Malaga. Malaga has so much to see, it's a real gem - and not full of Tourists either.

Then, try to book somewhere in Mijas or Mijas Costa. There's a few sites where you can book an apartment or villa and you'll get it cheaper than going through travel agents.

Hire a car (to pick up and drop off at the airport). Then you can drive around the area and take in some wonderful sights.

I'd recomend: The Alhambra - you can easily fill a full day here. Drive up to Rhonda - a decent drive up into the hills but well worth it.

Mijas village is quite touristy but if you go when the fiesta is on it is out of this world. It's high up, a bit back from the coast but you get wonderful views. Make sure you go through all the back streets to get away from the tourist bits and you'll find some wonderful gardens with great views down to the coast.

If you (or your other half) fancy a day out 'people watching' then Puerto Banus if only a short drive down the coast. You could also have a day in Gibralter (but the Spanish border police make loads of 'red tape' checks that will slow you up a bit so make sure you've got some cold drinks in the car with you.

If you're thinking of somewhere like Lanzarote (fab island) avoid Puerto del Carmen like the plague. The resort on the south of the Island (Playa Blanca I think it is) is lovely. If you do decide on Lanzarote, let me know - I'll give you details of some places not to miss.

For a cruise - you can't beat a cruise down the Nile. You'll come back an expert in Egyptology if you join the daily excursions around the temples etc!

I was in Menton, French Riviera just on the border with Italy in November. Weather lovely if you don't want to spit roast. What a beautiful place, stunning town, fab beaches. We found it inexpensive, good duty free and great shopping just over border in Ventimiglia. Bonus is transport is fantastic. Trains run all way down to St Raphael, cheap & on-time. Train also runs to Venice & Milan. Trouble was you needed about a month to really explore but great if like to get about.

you can go to a website called www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk for information about resorts and people views on the place and places they have stayed. I have always found it really informative when going in Europe
