we are looking to move to sheffield and want to live in the north of sheffield, close to the M1. Have looked at areas such as birley carr, grenoside, ecclesfield. Can anybody help and let us know what these areas are like or recommend any others?

Have you tried looking a little further north,i.e Thurgoland,Wortley,Cranemoor or even the surrounding area's of Penistone, these are all within minutes of the M1 and easy reach of Sheffield. Try www.rightmove.co.uk, might help.

Twinky.

BTW I have lived in both Ecclesfield and Grenoside and they are both very nice area's.

Hillsborough is very good, but house prices down there can be a bit on the dear side because it's such a good area with easy access to everything you need like shops, buses, schools etc.. Also if you can handle students, Crookes in S10 is also good and handy for all conveniences such as buses (Crookes is on the 52 route, arguably THE most reliable route in Sheffield), shops, hospitals, everything you need is practically on the doorstep or in easy distance...

why has noone mentioned chapeltown?
we're a friendly bunch and according to the local press we apparently now have less crime than ecclesfield??!!

I'd second the Hillsborough suggestion; house prices rising more than a lot of Sheffield, not much crime, good schools and a decent shopping area.

Depending on who 'we' is and the prices you are looking at, if you want to save a packet come and check out Page Hall. Theres lots more to say bout this but gotta do some work! Good luck.

Firth Park is the place to be. Good value for money on house prices. Its an up and coming area, good investment. The area has had funding to spruce up the house fronts etc and shopping area, and Page Hall shops are being redeveloped. Its a bustly area, lovely park. Great community, First Start building on the park is great for families with young children, an invaluable community resource. The new local sixth form college, Longley Park Sixth Form is giving the area a real boost too.

How can people just write off areas just like that with sweeping statements. Its attitudes like that which keep areas deprived. Firth Park has rough bits of course, but its drastically improving and there are many lovely parts of the area.
Its so important that people choose to live in these areas, we can work as a community and give the area a real boost. I feel personally offended by your statement.

Hello.

I think the best places in North Sheffield are. Rivelin Valley, I love Rivelin, the park is lovely and it feels like you're in the countryside but Hillsborough is really close by. Its got good transport links and is handy for the tram.
Grenoside is also really nice. Feels like a little village and is close to woods and countryside.
Bradfield and Burncross are also nice. Chapeltown is a nice place to live, although it can be really busy at the weekend. Ecclesfield is nice as well.
I love North Sheffield, your bound to find somewhere you love.

Zip.

Well thats about as far north as you can get and I doubt the locals would like being referred to as Sheffielders seing as those areas are in Barnsley!!!

Although with a S75 postcode it is technically a Sheffield suburb:P
