View Full Version : Hit & run 29 July on Prince of Wales Rd, info needed.
If anyone knows the kind soul who left my mate in a critical condition after knocking him of his Honda VFR on Prince of Wales Rd last night and crushing him before leaving the scene, can they please give their name either to the police or PM me. The police believe it was a red or reddish colour Cavalier or similar. Do you know the car? It will be damaged. Any info is much appreciated
Sorry to hear this :( I wish your mate a speedy recovery.
Cheers Deejay, we're all praying he pulls through. Thanks for your thoughts.
DaBouncer 30-07-2005, 16:13 Hit and Run? Digusting.
OK you're panicked by hitting someone off their bike etc, but failing to stop and see if they're alright, calling an ambulance, doing the right thing is dispicable.
I hope he pulls through too Spitty :(
At a guess I'd say it's a good possibility that the driver was either:
A) Drunk
B) Had No Insurance
C) Joyrider
If I hear anything, I'll let you know
Cheers mate. He wouldn't be alive today if it hadn't been for the other motorists that stopped to help him and I must just say a REAL BIG THANK YOU to all of them. I am passing all messages onto his missus and I am sure she will be as grateful as I am for any info.
spyro2000 30-07-2005, 19:00 Hope your mate gets through this pal.
I havent got any info myself, but have the police said anything? As Im not sure, but there may be cameras up that way due to it being a busy(ish) main road. So hopefully even if they dont have the cars reg or anything then they may be able to go through camera film to see if they can spot the car on the film and obtain its details. So even if the crash itself wasnt caought on film, surely the car will be on camera further up the road...
Sorry to hear about your mate's accident Spitty.
Hope they get the clown who did it and that your mate recovers soon.
There's a camera at the bottom of Prince of Wales Road at the junction with Staniforth Rd so if the time of the hit and run is known, all they'd need to do is view the tape a couple of minutes either side of the incident and they should see a red cavalier pass through that junction. Unless of course they entered/left Prince of Wales Rd by another route.
littleboo 30-07-2005, 19:47 Hope that your mate is going to be ok, Read about it in the Star tonight. it's disgusting.
Lets hope that they catch the scumbags who did this.
It said in Paper his condition is critical, keep us informed if he improves.
My thoughts are with him and his family
jess1405 30-07-2005, 20:00 i hope ur freinds ok its idots like them dat shouldnt b on the road.
Like all the other Spitty I hope your mate pulls through.
Pass on my best wishes to his family, and let's hope the driver who hit him is soon caught.
Thank you to all that have posted on this site and I will pass on all your good wishes. Unfortunately the cameras just happened to be facing the other way (ain't that just typical?) so the police reckon they have nothing to go on. We are waiting for news and I will post an update as soon as we here any more news about Ringo (that's his club name). Once again thank you. Spitty.
But even with the camera facing the opposite way, surely it would be worth a look to see if a car answering the description passed through the thing before of after to impact and if so follow up the number plate.:suspect:
I saw this in the paper, not just a hit and run, but he actually mounted and crossed the central reservation to get away in the other direction.
Makes no difference, but best wishes anyway, hope they catch the scum.
Cheers both. He did mount the central to get away and we are hoping that someone in the queue of traffic noticed the reg but it could have been nicked anyway. Someone out there knows who the culprit is and if they can live with the knowledge, well, I guess you can think what I mean. The boys in blue are well p***ed off at not being able to catch the culprit and I think every biker in Sheffield is looking for that car. I have been on the receiving end of a car myself and it hurts, trust me, it hurts real bad especially when the scroat isn't insured, licenced, old enough etc etc. Thanks again peeps (sorry if it appears I am taking this personally, the guy is a very good freind).
I've read the article and its appalling how people (and I use the term 'people' in this case loosely!!) can do such a thing. How can they live with such a thing?
I'm afraid I cannot offer help but would like to pass on our best wishes (Vidster and I). Praying for a speedy recovery to him and the heartache to end for you all.
Don't apologise for feeling how you do..... its natural.
I do have the link for the story printed in the paper if you would like me to post it for anyone who hasn't read it today and if it would help however I wont without your say so as it does include names.
Best wishes K

Spitty don't apologise for taking it personally.....it is personal, and as I said last night let's hope your friend makes a full recovery and that the scum who drove away are soon caught.
Any further information on the car involved yet?
Hi All
No more info yet. We are going to see if we can get some more info today and I will keep everone posted. Many thanks to you all again.
MuteWitness 31-07-2005, 11:58 could you tell me what the rider looks like as i think i might know him, does he wear a matt black helmet
Hi there
Not as a rule, it's an Anniversary VFR and he's as bald as they come (nearly there myself, must be wearing helmets).
alchresearch 31-07-2005, 12:55 Here's the BBC news story on it:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/4730537.stm
It says he was riding between two lanes when he was struck by the car changing lanes.
It's true he was negotiating slow moving traffic which is perfectly legal if done sensibly and believe me, there is nobody who rides more sensibly than this guy.
What is ilegal is leaving the scene of an accident and this person definitely knew what he had done even to the extent of reversing over a central reservation to get away. Nobody who is a) Driving legally and b) not at fault, attempts to get away as this driver did. The rider is currently on a ventilator in ITU. If anyone seen a red or maroon coloured M registration Cavalier with damage on it probably whith silver/yellow or red paint on it, please can they let the police know.
Sorry to hear of your mate. Trust the cameras to be the wrong way. Never in a usefull position when they which they would be of some use.
Hi Spitty,
My other half and I are both bikers and couldn't believe it when we read the story on the front of the Star at the weekend. We live very close to where the accident happened so will keep an eye out for the car in case it's local. Keeping my fingers crossed that your mate makes a very speedy recovery and that the scum that left him is caught pretty sharpish - please let us know how he gets on.
Kathryn

try checking local scrap yards, see if any one has been in looking for cavalier wings etc,or around areas that cars are dumped and burned, you never know...........good luck
Hi Kathryn
That's excellent news. About 5 of us did a scouting excercise yesterday and will keep looking until we or the Police catch the culprit. The rider is still on a ventilator and I will keep the site updated with news on his condition and whether we have news on the car/driver. Thanks again.
D xx
alchresearch 01-08-2005, 12:04 Bump. Lets try and keep this at the top.

Perhaps one of the mods will can make it sticky for a while.
shefflad 01-08-2005, 12:31 been listening to radio sheffield news they said some one had been arrested on sat/sunday night to do with this??
That's news to us. If it's true then that is good news but we haven't been told anything yet. Hopefully we will get to find out later. Thanks for the info.
According to the BBC website the car in question has been found burnt out at Gleadless. Police are now trying to get witnesses who have seen it being driven after the accident.
Kathryn
Latest news on the BBC website:
Suspected hit-and-run car torched
Police have a found a burnt-out car they believe was involved in a hit-and-run accident which left a motorcyclist fighting for his life.
The 53-year-old Sheffield man remains critically ill in the city's Northern General Hospital after Friday's crash in Prince Of Wales Road, Sheffield.
He collided with a Vauxhall Cavalier which failed to stop. On Sunday, police found a burnt-out car in Gleadless.
A 27-year-old man who was arrested on Saturday has been released on bail.
South Yorkshire Police said they would like to hear from anyone who saw a Vauxhall Cavalier - registration M 542 HBC - between 1800 BST on Friday and the early hours of Sunday morning.
They also want to trace witnesses to the accident itself, particularly a young couple who may have stopped at the scene to help.
Thank you everyone. I will get another update on the site later when we have more news about the Rider's condition.
Just a quick update. The rider is still in ITU on a ventilator. Unfortunately the damage to his internal organs is not permitting him to breathe on his own satisfactorily so the ventilator is there to help. We have passed on all good wishes to his wife tonight and I will keep the site updated with further info.
Hi Everyone. Unfortunately the rider still remains heavily sedated on a ventilator although he is showing signs of recovery.
We are not probing too much into what the police are doing at the moment as I am sure they will be on the case.
I will keep this post going with updates on the riders health for as long as people are reading it. All your thoughts were passed onto the riders wife and I will print them out for him.
Thanks again.

There were half a dozen policemen stopping traffic on Prince of Wales Road tonight, handing out leaflets asking for witnesses to get in touch.
Thanks for that info Andy, I will let one of the guys who is in constant touch with his wife know and he can pass the message on.
i was on the 14 bus going toward's woodhouse just after it happenden as we waited at the light's on castlebeck avenue there was no police or anything just load's of chavs hanging about hope that the man is ok.
Hi all, just an update. The rider remains critically ill on a ventilator with internal injuries still preventing him breathing on his own. We have no further news on what the police are doing although they are keeping things fairly quiet because of the press. Thanks to everyone for all your support and I am sure there will be some good news soon.
Thanks again.
Thanks Spitty, pass on our hopes for a full recovery to his family.
Hi all, another quick update for you.
The rider still remains on a ventilator and although things looked pretty grim at the weekend, quick intervention by staff at the hospital managed to turn events around. The internal organ damage is on the repair but we are not expecting to see any major improvements for some time. Reliance on oxygen provision has reduced, which is a good sign but for the time being the rider is still being kept under sedation.
Thanks again for all of your thoughts.
Spitty.
Again our best wishes and thoughts are with you, his family and friends through this tough time.
I'm sorry you had a scare over the weekend, that must've been a shock though thankfully he has pulled through again and thats a brilliant sign of determination and will.
I hope now things just go from strength to strength and he continues on that road to recovery though I'm sure it will be long and painful at times he'll get there and hopefully get the chance to see this 'person' (I use the term lightly) punished for such a terrible and cruel (there aren't enough words I can post I'm afraid that can be shown on a public forum) thing to do.
Best wishes K xx
:)
Hi all
As of yesterday, the rider's condition has steadily been improving to the point where he is now under lighter sedation and has been off the ventilator twice for a few minutes. As his condition changes I will continue to post messages.
Splodge_CRB 22-08-2005, 19:12 That's good news Spitty :)
Sounds like he's finally turned the corner
My thoughts are with you all. I am so pleased your friend is improving ,albeit slowly.
Good to hear that Spitty. I go home every day past where it happened and often wonder how he is, so please keep posting your updates.
Kathryn
Thank you for your comments, all of which will be passed on to the rider when he is able to read or listen to them. He actually did 3 hours off the ventilator yesterday before they decided to put him back on which is excellent news.:)
Great news Spitty. Maybe tomorrow 3and a half hours!
hi there i would just like to send your friend my best wishes .and hope they catch the person are person,s who were in the car .
Thank you both. I'll keep you posted.
steevie/d 23-08-2005, 14:39 hi ya spitty
hope your mate ringo gets better soon and makes a good recovery i know only too well i once had a big accident on my bike many years ago near fox house was in a coma for 3 days bike wrote off bran new suzi kettle 750 no 1 about no mobiles in those days my mate had to go to the farmer to phone the ambulance i know its not much help to you in finding these crettins who drove off and left the poor lad for dead lets hope they catch em soon before they do it again just thought i would share this with you all ive never had another bike since but still like them just put me off riding them i made a full recovery many off my mates will disagree tho lol "" best wishes steve
Thanks for that Steve. I know exactly where you are coming from after being on the receiving end myself and spending 6 months recovering (full recovery?? what's that? lol) but like a silly sod I got back on and (touch wood) have only had a couple of 'incidents' since. Unfortunately for us, we will always be 'at risk' no matter how safe we ride and it's the chance we take for the freedom we get and the feeling that life aint actually that bad. I'm glad to hear you recovered and I guess that is one friend you will never forget. Kettle eh, by eck, that takes me back!! I was one of the daft sods who bought an RE5 and yes,,, I do wish I had kept it, it would be worth a fortune.
Thanks again for your thoughts, drive and live safe.
Hi there
Yes there is. He is off the ventilator now but still has some tubes to help him breathe. He is on ligh sedation just to keep the pain at bay and stop him fighting the tubes but it definitely looks as if he has turned the corner. Hopefully he will be able to accept more visitors soon and we can organise a large visitation.
Hello Spitty, I'm glad to hear your friend is off the ventilator at last. Any more news?
alchresearch 23-03-2006, 20:11 It's been quite a long time since this thread was updated. How are things?
Hello, I too have been wondering lately how things are going on. Keep us up to date.
Hi there
Thank you for asking. Ringo (as he is known) is coming along nicely. He is still very much off-work but is able to get about. The main problem seems to be his foot at the moment which wont react to his commands and so he can't drive or ride but he is in good spirits and was really pleased at all the messages he got.
We are hoping that the foot problem sorts itself out and Ringo has given himself until later in the year before making a decision about the bike and of course work as he is a driver by trade.
He can be found some Monday nights at the Honda Owners Club meetings at the Travellers Inn near Chapeltown (if he persuade his ever so patient missus to take him) so I will tell him that you asked after him.
Many thanks again.
SallyLaLaLa 24-03-2006, 12:20 Did they ever catch the people who did it?
Glad to hear that Ringo is home. Keep going with the foot Ringo!
