How exciting, my first post....

Due to my girlfriend recently ending our 10 year relationship, (boohoo ) , I find myself looking for a new bachelor pad, (yippeeeeee :hihi:).

I don't have any kids and work from home for myself so can pretty much move anywhere in Sheffield. I noticed that I can get a lot of house for my money in Ecclesfield and Grenoside. I particularly like what I have seen of Grenoside, from around the Norfolk arms pub up to topside and stephen lane etc with whitley lane quite nearby down to Ecclesfield and penistone road to Hillsborough.

What do you guys think of Grenoside as I'm originally from whirlow and don't know this area at all. It seems nice and quiet from what I've seen when I've driven around there. Was it bad in the floods as I'm sure I heard it was? Any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

One of the first places to get snow !
The only problem is travel to Sheffield on Penistone road between 0800 to 0930/1530 to 1800 and on Match days at Hillsborough.
Remember Grenoside is in Bradfield Parish so has a small levy on top of Sheffield Council Tax rate.

We live just down the hill in Foxhill and love it. Grenoside is really nice but we cant justify at least doubling our mortgage payments to move a quarter of a mile up the road. It does get icy a lot in the winter, however the village atmosphere is really nice. Plus lots of pubs, fantastic butcher and good transport links.

hi Gambler...I am originally a millhouses girl, but moving into a cottage in Greno tommorow. Lots of my mates live up there and yes although its a little on the rural side its close enough to the city centre to enjoy the best of both worlds. Everyone Ive spoken to have been so friendly. And having Greno woods within arms reach is a massive bonus. Will let you know in a couple of weeks when Ive settled in. Good luck with your search and welcome to the Forum. :D

Hey technophobe that sounds really great. A cottage up there sounds really nice to be honest. I'm going on yet more viewings tonight, one in S8 and the other S10, but unless either of those prove to be out of this world I think I'm going to stick with the 2 places I've found in Grenoside and see those again.

Thanks for the help and good luck with your new home. Bet you are well excited if you are moving in tomorrow :D

Good Luck with the move Technophobe.:wink:

Have a friend who has lived up there for years and she loves it. It still has a strong 'village' and comunity feel, despite being on the outskirts of Shefftropolis. The only snag of course being that you are just that bit closer to Barnsley :gag::o

Thanks for the replies. It's starting to very much look like I'm gong to live in grenoside. It will either be a 3 or 4 bed semi. As it's just for me, do you think I'd be able to rent one of the rooms out? It will be a fairly decent house, lots of space, garden, garage etc. Is grenoside too far out to for the young professional who might want a nice, safe secure place to live? What sort of rent could you expect for something like that?

I lived at Grenoside when I was young and we have friends who live there now. In my opinion, it's one of the nicest parts of Sheffield. It's relatively free from chavs and anti social behaviour compared to many places. We're moving (or trying to move should I say if the estate agents would get their act together - long story!) and would love to find somewhere in Grenoside, failing that, Chapeltown/Burncross.
Good luck, i'm sure you will be very happy there.

hello i lived there for 7 years it brill quite. when it snows you cant get a taxi or bus up there thats only bad thing. go for it pal very nice place best place in sheffield by long way. it was not hit by floods at all as it on one big hill and water runs to ecclesfield which was very bad in floods.
