ba_inghy   10 #1 Posted December 10, 2003 Hi, my girlfriend and I are looking for a place in Sheffield (close to the city centre) that opens late and serves coffee. When I mean late, I mean later than 10 p.m. Something Starbucks-ish perhaps. Basically we're looking for a place to sit around, chat and have coffee. We used to work in London where we had lots of options, but can't seem to find the equivalent in Sheffield.  Any ideas? Thanks. Someone else may or may not confirm this is still true as I've not been for years.  Nomme
 Share this content via...
E-Man Groovin   27 #3 Posted December 10, 2003 Ha Ba,  I'm an ex-Londoner too (moved up in Feb). As to the answer to your question... it's a difficult one because if I'm out after 10pm, I normally only want alcohol :-). I'm sure that you are aware that there are bars that do coffee - Halcyon, Forum, Lounge (indeed Lounge is a Cafe bar and on weekday evenings retains the cafe vibe). But if you want a non-bar environment, my only guess would be perhaps Utopia in West One. Am not sure when they close but they seem to open fairly late. It's a nice place too - infinitely preferable to corporate nasty Starbucks...  Zeddy
 Share this content via...
Tony Ruscoe   10 #4 Posted December 10, 2003 Not sure if it still does - or if it's only open to students - but the Interval bar in Sheffield Uni's Student Union used to open on Friday and Saturday nights until about 4 A.M. for coffee, etc...  Edit: Looks like it doesn't open that late anymore - thanks Jayne (see post below)
 Share this content via...

Jayne   10 #6 Posted December 10, 2003 The interval bar at USUS no longer opens until 4 on Fridays and Saturdays. It's a great shame but it "wasn't making any money" but was a great place to go if you got bored of the club or walking back from town.  had many evenings there with hot chocolate and toasties. Dr Feelgood   10 #8 Posted December 24, 2003 Utopia in West One is for me by far the best coffee house in Sheffield but unfortunately it is open only til 10pm daily.  Another place you might want to try is Casa on Glossop Road, near the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. They serve nice coffee and I think are open til late.  Things are changing all the time in the city centre with new cafes opening up so I guess it won't be too long before another late opening coffee house springs up. Just got to keep your eyes peeled.
 Share this content via...
Dr Feelgood   10 #9 Posted January 31, 2004 Anyone who read the Telegraph this week might have seen that there's a swanky new cafe-bar opening in Tudor Square in April. It's going to be called 'Ruskins' and will be open til 11pm daily. So there's another one to add to the late night coffee list!
