I recently got a laptop with a DVD player, however, I can't seem to play DVD's using Microsoft Media Player (don't know why even though I have the latest version). Anyway can any suggest some free DVD player software to download (not trial version or ones with spyware/adware on them).

thanks

Try a trial of Cyberlink's Power DVD. That will install the relevant codecs needed for WMP to play the film.

Another recommendation for Windows Media Player classic.

Really small executable, no bloatware, no messy install stuf ...

Download here ...

True it isn't free, but as near as... I've binned about 5 copies that came with dvd drives :) (and I think you can buy older versions for about a fiver anyway)

[edit - as an example, found v5 selling for the grand sum of £0.58 here (http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=SW-POWERDVD) - no idea if you need to buy hardware with that as it's OEM, or what postage is like, but you can't complain at that price :)]
