Why CD-Rewriter? Why not a DVD re-writer?
They're cheaper these days and do CD's too :D

also i have a programme called audio mp3 maker i can't get it to work with my dvd writer so i'm guessing i have to use it with a cd rewriter

Is it to make and MP3 CD or when you're making your own tunes or what?

It shouldn't matter because the DVD writer is in fact a CD writer but has a dual function so I doubt that you actually NEED a CD writer to make it work.

Check the way it's setup (the software) with the current writer.
Failing that get some different software.

If you're just using it to make mp3s from cds (if it's the $29.95 program google found), there's loads of free ways to do it... I use EAC (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) (Exact Audio Copy). Might take a little longer to make the program do exactly what you want (it's not hard though), but it's the best there is...
