Help needed urgently. We have started re-decorating the hall and staircase. Got off to a bad start by removing the self adhesive border which pulled off the underlying satin emulsion. We want to to put on matt emulsion but after trying a small test wall we seem to have two problems.
1 there is a 6inch strip from cieling down that is now back to the original magnolia the walls were painted in leaving us with a lighter strip at the top.
2 We have been told that the matt emulsion will not take over the top of the satin and will create a crackle effectand maybe peal off after a short time.

Anyone know if this is true and can offer any suggestions how to tackle this problem.

poly filla your strip that has been pulled of using a floating trowel to get it the same as the rest of the walls, paint: Ive seen this a few times too, The matt emulsion cant get a key on the silk emulsion, sandpaper it down first so that the matt has something to stick to, hope this helps

not sure about the patch but id say you need to sand the walls so the paint sticks. good luck with it hun. :)

Thanks guys sanded the walls down and just finished putting first coat on. Reading on the web that it might lull us into a false sense of security in that it will look OK at first then start to crack and peel after a while. You know that feeling when you wish you had never started something LOL fingers crossed though Mrs G
