View Full Version : Has anyone lost a big green parrot?
mr fester 15-10-2009, 06:21 I have heard reports of a big green parrot which has taken up residence locally to me. It has been going on now for some weeks. I saw him/her myself yesterday for the first time.
If he/she is yours I would not have a clue about how you would catch him, but I can point you generally in the right direction.
dumplindeb 15-10-2009, 08:16 id contact the rspca,, this poor mite surely cant survive out there on its own..

It's been around for some weeks I am informed, but I did not see it until yesterday (Wednesday). It seemed chirpy enough but the nights are getting colder now.
jasonspy48 15-10-2009, 10:10 no i have not loss my parrot, and i don't want because i love my parrot allot.
Classic Rock 15-10-2009, 11:29 Try to figure out where it may be nesting that will help the RSPCA (or should the RSPB really be the better agency to ring).
We don't want an ex parrot out there.
sistahiss 15-10-2009, 11:31 Is it near the roundabout close to Bingham park?

It is in Whiston old village.
Phone the rspca mate, it wont last long in the wild if its a pet especially now its turning chilly :(
There was a pair of wild parrots round woodseats in the summer though, could be one of them but they are not that big.

Hi
There's a green parrot been missing for around a month from parkgate in Rotherham.
the owner has been advertising the fact on Gumtree...
>>>clicky<<< (http://sheffield.gumtree.com/sheffield/83/44095183.html)
it could possibly be the same bird....
regards, John:)
Someone should definitely contact the rspca. I've just looked on their website and there is a green parakeet missing from S2:
http://rspcasheffield.homeip.net/cgi-bin/lostandfound.py?lostorfound=lost&species=Parakeet
I've no idea how far they can fly but I expect they could cover a few miles easily, so it could be the same one.

i'm not too sure but i think parakeets are smaller birds than parrots...
rgds, john:)
There are indeed but I thought it could be possible that it's the same bird. Who knows! Has anyone contacted the RSPCA yet?
My friend Huso lost 3 parrots all green during the gales last winter! when his aviery roof was blown off.

They could belong to Huso as his roof was blown off his avery during the gales we had , were these green ring necks? and have you seen them recently

have you contacted the rspca yet and if not why are you asking others to do it?

I have no idea where this bird is - I haven't seen it myself n know nothing about it other than what's been posted here. I was just replying to the post n asking if anyone who has seen it has contacted the RSPCA.
Indian Ring Necked parakeets are becoming more common in the wild - so much so there are proposals to cull them in some areas of the country. I used to have one in the 70s. Beautiful birds - could never get mine to talk but he looked stunning- bright green with a red beak and a black and red ring of colour around his neck. You would not think such a vivid bird could survive outdoors but they've taken up residence in large flocks all over the UK!
Bilbo Baggin 18-10-2009, 20:19 My mother in law lost her female Jenday Conure which looks like this (http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Bird,%20247.jpg) She still has the male at home. The female did have a ring on her leg but my mother in law didn't register her so she will still be registered with the breeder she bought them from in Chesterfield. If you think that might be her please let me know.

they did look like green ring necks mate yeah but hard to say for sure tbh not seen them since june/july they were round the woods near the fraser estate/barbers field.
2 of them allways together sending the magpies bonkers
I have emailed the person on gumtree, as this could well be the parrot, as Whiston is not too far away from Parkgate.
I hope the owner and parrot are reunited.

I saw a parakeet near bingham park a week ago... despite the cold it seemed happy enough!
jennyjenjen 17-01-2010, 22:09 just so you all know parakeets are now living wild in the uk and if you see one its probably not sombodies pet..

they have been for many many years, even breeding on large numbers
big differance between a parrot and parekeet though
its like saying i have found a turtle, or seen a turtle in a park pond that someone has lost, been living wild here for 25 or so years

I remember going to a friend's farm a few years ago and looking up to see loads of them in the surrounding trees all making a racket.
I've not been back since but they were clearly doing very well around that area!
I saw a parakeet this morning flying over Hanover Way towards Broomhall. Had a distinctive call, a high pitched "peep-peep-peep".
