Just had a nice crumbly hard caerphilly cheese sarnie.
Got to thinking "Hard Cheese" or, more recently "Hard Chedder" is a term for tough luck.

But I enjoyed my cheesy comestible

Anyone know how or when the term Hard Cheese became synonymous with tough luck?

There is no prize for this competition.

Probably started out when the outside of cheese had a rind on it, so the hard cheese was the worst part...........also more than likely a mile of the real reason, but it sounds good :P

Very Wet Cheese (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4729971.stm)

Cheese-maker Luc Boivin threw 800kg (1,700lb) of cheese in the Baie des Ha! Ha! in Quebec late last year, believing it would improve the taste.

Having used cheese for fishing I wonder if the fish in the Lake have been feasting on his sunken Cheddar :P
