My dad promised me he’d get me driving by Christmas, so as an early present he said he’d give me some money for lessons. I went to the BSM centre at Furnival Gate and they’re doing this really good deal where I get 10 lessons for £150. They also said that they’d give me £2 off an hour because I’m a student, which is great for me. I’m excited to get started but still feeling a little apprehensive, but I suppose that’s normal.

Is anyone else learning with BSM too or can give me any driving tips?

Cheers.

Hello there.

It does seem like a good offer but the BSM adverts also state that the offer saves you 35%. When you do the maths, it works out that the hourly rate is around £23 per hour. If I remember correctly, they usually do 2 hour lessons so you'll probably end up with 5x 2 hour lessons unless you were able to get the instructor to do 10x 1 hour lessons.

Another thing with BSM is that while they charge premium rates, some of their instructors are not fully qualified but BSM will still charge you the same. That isn't to say the instructor won't be any good as they may be fine but just haven't passed the final exam yet. I was an Instructor for BSM and if I'm honest, I hated working for them and a lot of my pupils were fed up with the bombardment of phone calls and text messages trying to sell them more stuff.

I still work as a driving instructor and my honest advice to you would be to ask your friends, family, etc if they could recommend anybody to you. They'll be able to give you much more objective information than a sales person ever would.

Good luck when you do start.

Yeah I'd advise against going with BSM.

Lots of people affectionately call them 'Bring me Some Money'.

I can recommend Saxon on the forum - I did my Pass Plus with him last year.

Heard a lot of bad stuff about BSM.
I've just got back into driving after having failed twice about 2 years ago and my new instructor is awesome really patient and we have a good laugh. He does you 10 lessons for £150 then £20 an hour after. Theres other deals also depending on your progress ill pm you his number

i only passed several weeks ago i didnt go with bsm as i heard some very bad reports about them. i went with best drive who charge around £20 an hour and he was brilliant for me. id shop around as its not good for your learning process
if the lessons become to expensive for you and you have to stop or change to a cheaper one. i changed once and had 2 breaks in my lessons which resulted in it taking me ages to pass even though i only had two actual tests.

I used to go with AA...(my instructor went to them from BSM).
Complete waste of money. After failing 2 tests, I went with "Spot On" and passed.

Good Luck :)

Try Dave at AM School of Motoring - www.am-som.co.uk

Lessons are £18 per hour and if you buy 10 lessons you get the 11th free - so it works out at just over £16 per lesson.

Good luck :o)
