View Full Version : The Simpsons, should it end?
ReginaldD 30-07-2005, 01:21 The Simpsons has been going on for years, don't get me wrong I love it to bits, but i think you can have to much of a good thing. Surely there can't be much more the writers can think of, I myself think it hasn't been as good recently, they should make a film which ties up all the loose ends and call it time.
Unless it stops being funny then no keep it going :)
The simpson are great
In all these years it has been on i only seen 2 simpsons that was not funny and good to see it running so long. And it good as now my 10y old daughter loves them and dont belive me how many years the simpson have been on tv.I never get bored of watching them.and my kid got over 40 tapes off them.

Yep.... I'm agreeing with Jon on this one. The Simpsons should keep going until i fail to laugh at an episode. I predict a long future for them
I think it should end. It's not nearly as funny as it used to be.
It relies on swear words, toilet humour, and sexual content - call me old fashioned, but people 'doing it' on a cartoon show watched by children is something I find disturbing.
As with all soaps, there comes a point when the writers will run out of ideas and rely on 'shock value' to keep the ratings up , and I think that point has already been reached.
There are just too many political references for my liking as well. If I wanted politics, I'll read the Guardian (or the Sheffield Forum).
I love the Simpsons and think maybe a few of the new episodes were not as funny as the earlier ones but it keeps bouncing back. If you watch the old five minute shorts from the Tracy Ullman show then you will see it has gone from strength to strength:D

The cartoon has improved greatly in terms of the artwork, but the stories are getting slowly worse...end it now
yeah couldnt agree more the simpsons used to be pure gold, now its, well, pants. jus tie up any loose ends and get the hell out of there matt
the quality doesnt drop.....the show shouldnt stop.
when it stops being funny it should stop.
BRING BACK FUTURAMA
ReginaldD 30-07-2005, 14:16 Yep , futurama, was as good if not better, but was always in the simpsons shadow.
The simpsons hasn't been very funny this side of the millenium.
Beakerzoid 30-07-2005, 15:27 The Simpsons should have ended after season 8. All that it does now is repeat the same tired jokes over and over again.
Give me Family Guy (or even American Dad) anyday!

Please... Family Guy does not even compete on the same scale as The Simpsons, South Park or even the late great Futurama for that matter.
What is it about Family Guy that is so special about it?
My work colleague at work raves about it, I've tried watching it and I thought it was complete cack.
Its a simpsons-wannabe.. end of.
Beakerzoid 30-07-2005, 22:04 Family Guy places Simpsons on the ground, climbs a huge ladder next to it, drops it's trousers, and promptly evacuates its bowels all over the Simpsons.
It is far from a Simpsons wannabe....it is a different brand of humour, it is surreal, doesn't care about continuity, and isn't kiddie friendly.
Never in a million years would Family Guy **** on from a great height, The Simpsons.
Family Guy from what I've seen is just not funny enough to even be spoken of next to the Simpsons.
Its frankly ****e, and in proof of this, Family Guy was not once but twice I hear binned from american TV until a 'big' uproar from the fans who wanted them to bring it back.
It its that good and its that funny, we will see if it lasts as long as the simpsons have, I really do doubt it, and I'd see money on it as well.
BorisMarakas 30-07-2005, 23:16 It stopped being funny a whie ago. They should kill them all off

True.
Family Guy was funny and witty from episode one and consistently funny on every single episode after that.
Simpsons didn't start getting funny until at least season 3 or 4, and then became rubbish again a few years ago. Quality, not quantity is the factor here.
I can't wait for the Family Guy movie in a couple of months, I've already pre-ordered my copy!
no, not whilst the writers can wring another drop from it.

It was cancelled once due to low viewing figures. The DVD came out and became a bestseller. More people learned of the show through DVD. It was recommissioned. The 'big uproar' was the tons of cash generated by the sales of the DVD, showing that it had an audience after all.
Plenty of shows get cancelled in the US for low viewing figures, but are not bad shows.
Firefly, Carnivale, American Gothic, Dead Like Me, Futurama - great shows which were cancelled (Firefly sold so well on DVD that it has got a movie coming out later this year called Serenity)
Andromeda - just keeps going!! Perhaps, by the fact that this hasn't been cancelled, you believe this (and Charmed) to be fantastic shows?
I actually quite like Andromeda.

I'll pretend I didn't see that. ;)
Hercules in a sentient space ship, can it get any better.

Its still not as good as the legendary simpsons.
I bet ok you can remember more simpsons episodes than you can family guy episodes- in all honest call you admit this?
Also you have mentioned one of the all-time greatest shows on earth in American Gothic.
People who have never seen this.. you missed out on something special there, it was absolutely mindblowing.
And a shame its not out on DVD in the UK because I would be on it in a flash.
I've never seen any of the others bar Futurama so I couldnt comment on any of the others - Carnivale looked good but I missed them unfortunately.

I can remember more episodes of Eastenders than I can remember of anything. That doesn't mean it is any good, it just means it is always on so hard to avoid!
American Gothic NEEDS a DVD release over here! It was amazing!
Recommend getting hold of Dead Like Me on DVD. It ran to 2 seasons and was pretty neat. No-one watched it or knew of it when the first season was shown. I have since introduced a load of people to it.
Yeah, cos it's a big bag of ****e now.
Episodes aren't even that funny anymore, and try too hard.
My biggest complaint about The Simpsons is that its on the telly far too much!
Don't get me wrong I do love it but the thing I hate the most is sitting down to watch an episode and realising that I've seen the exact same episode sometime in the previous week (or it feels like I've seen it recently.) And I don't even watch it that much at all!
I can't understand these people who sit down and watch it every night and will watch 4/5 espisodes....
I do like it and find it hilarious but surely we don't need sooooo many episodes on all of the time! You can have too much of a good thing......
the_rudeboy 08-08-2005, 17:31 My biggest complaint about The Simpsons is that its on the telly far too much!
I agree totally with this. It is on too often.
BUT
The Simpsons is an institutuion and should only end when it isn't funny anymore.....sorry, but it still makes me howl!
coral_amber 08-08-2005, 20:20 :o noooo dont take away the simpsons its a fab programme..........all my family watch it and love it............our hero as to be homer the funniest guy alive

Blame Sky for their crap schedules. They have to fill it with something, why not two hours of Simpsons (like tonight).
The only one I watched was the one where the real Seymour Skinner turned up.
C4 Simpsons are dire, not worth watching because they've been shown ad nauseum on BBC and C4.
I'm a big Simpsons fan. Last night, we watched The Simpsons cast on Inside The Actor's Studio. Hilarious to see the people behind the voices of the Simpsons characters.

spyro2000 09-08-2005, 00:33 The Simpsons should NEVER EVER end. its a class show if there ever was one. One of my fave programmes of all time. It just continues to amuse me. I can watch it endlessly for hours on end.
All of these crappy cartoon shows are shown over here on the Fox Network, along with the Jerry Springer show and other garbage. The only good thing on this hellhole is America's Most Wanted.

America's most wanted is only worth watching if you are not on it Buck. ;)
I was thinking of visiting Connecticut, but I think I will give it a miss now :P

I disagree here... C4 often shows classic Simpsons episodes which I've either never seen before or haven't seen in years, which is far better than the Sky One policy of repeating the same episode every week!

I have all the futurma box sets and cant stop watching them, its alot more intelligent and yet a whole lot funnier than simpsons. It only failed as it was aired at random and poor hours in USA so the rates were never good enough. Simpsons now rely on celebritys and going off to yet another new country to point fun at how the world is not like them.
Don't come to Connecticut, Owdlad, it's too damned expensive even for me. It's called the richest state in the union. I must have missed something somewhere. Watch AMW some time. Look out for a guy, six feet tall, very graying hair, has emphysima, talks funny, last seen at Kennedy Airport trying to stowaway on a Virgin Atlantic flight to Manchester. Wanted by the FBI for calling George Bush a moron among other things.
I know, I know, I'm not following the thread. The hell with it.
Robbie Loving 10-08-2005, 09:03 simpsons cant end as long as it is still funny.
the problem with Sky is, they are not showing the newest episodes available, its very rare you get anything after series 10.
as for simpsons not being funny in series one and two? are you on this planet? some of the funniest moments happenes in these 2 series,
i watch a documentary with the writers/producers etc of the Simpsons not long ago and they basically said they will end it just as soon as someone comes up with a good idea for an ending !! No-ones had one yet so until then they'll just keep going - I'm sure the fact they're making truck loads of cash has something to do with it tho.
In answer to the quesion... No!
Yes there's endless repeats, but it's still has me PMSL!
Monty Burns, Moe, Krusty, Sideshow Bob, Groundskeeper Willie...and the funniest cartoon character ever Homer!
Long live the Simpson's...
Love Futurama too
crusher21 10-08-2005, 13:30 the answer to the quesion No
i hope it never ends
