View Full Version : Pet insurance for rescued pet locket 12-10-2009, 21:14 does anyone know if you can get pet insrance for a rescued pet. we have taken chez on & was wondering about pet insurance for her. we dont know anything about her . diamond123 12-10-2009, 21:19 is she a dog? diamond123 12-10-2009, 21:23 we rescued diamond and once she had been given a once over from the vet we got her insured no probs. she has no pre exisiting conditions that we know of and not recieving any treatment so persume its all valid and fine? hope that helps gina2007 12-10-2009, 23:01 Our cat, who we recently 'rescued' from the pound has been added onto our 5yr old cats insurance and it only went up by about £5/month, they said because she has been spayed, fully vacinated, flea dropped wormed and all the rest and given her approx age (shes 1) that she isnt a risk as such. If your pet has been spayed/neutered, and had all injections etc I wouldnt think they'd have a problem. We are with directline and its £17 a month, for up to £6000 of treatment per condition per cat. Thats for a 5yo, and a 1yo. If its a cat youve rescued it's cheap. Although we are currently thinking of changing from directline to petplan (I think its called this!!) as you pay a little extra but with the policy you get flea drops, wormers, discounted injections etc Shop around, and dont go for the first one! You can get different deals, different prices, everywhere. We are doing our homework now to save a few extra pennies! Our rabbits arent on this plan though, as they wouldnt put them on because of 'where they were bought' If its a dog you have, then im pretty sure you could get her insured. Do be prepared though, depending on her breed, the price will vary dramatically. Im not too clued up on dogs, more clued up on cats. Im sure someone, probably tomorrow, will give you better info on dogs/other animals! Oh and what diamond said too, if you go to the vets and get her weighed, approx age and stuff just get her into 'health' this will help too. Good luck xx locket 13-10-2009, 10:20 chez is a cat. thanks gina2007 she is hopefully going tot he vets next week to be checked over. so will take it from there. gina2007 13-10-2009, 12:21 Well, if you ask the vet to check her teeth and stuff too. This shouldnt differ on your insurance but its always best, we didnt know but our cat has got rank teeth and the vet gave her something for them. Is she spayed? If not, Springfield (has branches all over sheffield) are offering a 25% discount. That is the one in Firth Park, not sure if they all have. So its about £45 for Spaying, which ive found is cheap and there care is excellent compared to my last vets who seemed to be 'money' rather than 'animal' if you know what I mean. Alot of people on here do recommend Peak (I think its called that..!) but ive no experience of them and im not close to them either. Do get her flea'ed too, the last thing you want is your house infested :gag: HTH :) x |
