View Full Version : Kitten help please..
Ruby and Molly seem to have settled in rather well and are constantly exploring :hihi: However....Ruby doesn't seem to be putting on much weight and i'm a wee bit concerned? Molly's got a right tummy on her so i know she's definitely put some on. They both are still very active, playing most of the time, they eat and drink so i can't understand why she's not gaining anything? Her collar seems to be getting looser too but i'm not sure if that's down to them scrapping or whether it's the weight thing?
She seems rather happy in herself but just wondered what i should do?
They're both 9 week old at the moment, if that helps :hihi:
LitleMermaid 11-10-2009, 23:29 Bints, have they been wormed? Cos a big tummy can sometimes indicate that they need a dose of wormer. And have you actually weighed them? Sometimes, when you see them everyday it's difficult to notice them growing! Apparantly Roscoe has put on weight according to people who don't see him everyday, but I can't see it myself. Hope you two and bump are well xxx
Moonbird 11-10-2009, 23:50 I would go for weighing the kittens too, I always weigh all of my baby animals weekly to be sure that they are gaining weight and growing, as LM says it can be hard to tell when you see them all of the time...also again make sure that they are wormed as often as necessary.
LitleMermaid 11-10-2009, 23:53 And I still need to meet the little critters! :D
I don't think they'd been wormed when we got them, reckon i should do it?
No, i haven't weighed them either but when i pick them both up at the same time i can definitely tell that Molly has gained, she weighs much heavier than Ruby.
I just can't understand the whole collar thing, it's really become loose but Molly's hasn't :( D2J thinks i'm being stupid and worrying over nothing but i can't help it, they're my babies :(
LitleMermaid 11-10-2009, 23:59 No you definately need to get some wormer down them-worms can be really dangerous at their age. Even though they are from the same litter there can be a huge variation in size-and they grow at different rates! I'd not be inclined to be that worried if there's no other signs of illness to be honest! It may well be worms causing her to loose weight anyway-so just dose them up and then keep an eye on their weights and see if it makes a difference :)
Rightio, thank you :)
I will rush to the pet shop after i finish work tomorrow and buy some worming stuff - any recommendations for kitties?
Will start weighing them too, once i've trawled through all the boxes/black bags of stuff to find the scales

Not the pet shop stuff you need to use panacur and the paste is good for little ones you can buy iy from a vet or online.
berlingo 12-10-2009, 11:59 You could always take them to a vets for a kitten check, you need to know their weights to give the right amount of wormer.. At my vets kitten/puppy checks are free
if you take them to peaks,it is free of charge as a kitten check, they will also give you milbemax and frontline free of charge

Peaks or Peak Vets?
I've had a look on yell.com at Peak Vets and it's only brought one up - Olivet Rd, S8.

That's the one, we take all our lot there and they're excellent, very professional, good value and take time to explain problems.
I'd get their vaccinations and spaying done there too, probably won't be much more than £120, not sure though!

I think i will do to be honest, when they're old enough :) I did text Cat and ask her which Vets you used and she said Peaks too.
We've booked them in for injections and a complete check-over for Wednesday :)

I know it's a bit of a treck from you, but it's worth it for the service they give.
Good luck!
mummysaz21 12-10-2009, 19:42 booked my 9 week old in the vets for tomorrow with a free frontline pippet, but i wi,ll also be buying a wormer
LitleMermaid 12-10-2009, 19:53 I was so worried something was up when I got that text! :D Again, cannot recommend Peak enough! Let us know how it goes x
I will do! I'm kind of hoping Wednesday will arrive very quickly. I'm really worried about Ruby but she seems fine enough. Grrrrr, god dammit!!! :hihi:
LitleMermaid 12-10-2009, 20:13 :hihi: I know that worry very well this year! Bleedin' 'orrible isn't it? Little gits, how they get us to love them quite so much when they wreck our houses and everything we own is still a bit of a mystery!
Oh isn't it just! I've got baby worries (although she's quite happily kicking the crap out of me at the moment!) and now kitty worries - how much more can a poor fat lady take? :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
Mine haven't wrecked my house yet - good as gold they are :P
LitleMermaid 12-10-2009, 20:18 Hmm give it time ;) When they find their adult claws you will not have any carpets left. They will ignore the posts you buy them and decide that your landlord's curtains are a much more fun way of sharpening their claws. :)
I want a grope!
To feel bub, obviously ;)

We have laminate flooring in all of this house apart from the stairs ;)
You'll have to come out soon, let me know when you're free :)
LitleMermaid 12-10-2009, 20:23 Lol kittens on lamiate floor=the most hilarious amusing antics in the world!
Daz just got back from his holiday-so goddamn busy this week it's untrue, but we really really should all go out, miss rolling our eyes at the menfolk :)
Well, in the end we opted to get them both into the emergency vets. Ruby was more bothered about sleeping than eating/playing last night so we called the vets this morning and was told to take them straight in.
Anyway, turns out they've both got Cat Flu only Ruby is much worse. Both on Anti-biotics, both got eye drops and we've been given a worming tablet for them too. Poor Ruby had to have her temp took, she was squealing so loud it made me cry never mind her
It was a hard task to get them to have the anti-biotics and eye drops this morning, they're constantly trying to get away so my arms currently look like i've been self harming!! If anyone has got an easier way to get them to have either, it'd be helpful :)
