One piece of advice that I'll put forward, it isn't super constructive but it is a warning.

Due to the fact daytime TV and the like are crap and everyone else is at work, I find that when I am jobless I end up being semi-nocturnal and don't wake up until 1 or 2pm. Obviously if you're wanting to look for a job this becomes a serious problem as you wake up with most of the day gone and think 'sod it, tomorrow then' and this cycle continues. Suffice to say that this ends up leading to you feeling worthless and can even be a source of clinical depression.

Just trying to warn you about something that claimed 7 months of my life before I was literally dragged out of it. I'm glad I had such a loving and supportive family who cared enough to see being cruel was to be kind in my case.

Also, don't listen to the new Oasis song, cos it just drags me into that mindset again, dunno why.

As for things to do that are free. I find the library is one of the best things to do, you meet some injteresting people, can read pretty much anything, it feels at least slightly constructive while being 'fun' and also they have computers so you can probably still use the forum. As for jobs, you might wanna try a recruitment agency while you are properly jobhunting as I find that it is much easier to get a job if you are already working because you are less stressed resulting in a more confident, relaxed and sociable you.

I would agree it is best to find work whilst in work ..... the only down side is the amount of time you have off from your present employer to find a new job.

What sort of profession are you looking for ?

One thing I've never understood is why people quit before they get another job. Obviously sometimes there are major reasons but I've come across a few people who have just suddenly quit and then a few weeks later start complaining cos they have no money - well duh!!!!

I would suggest the job centre 1st thing Monday, bring your cv up to scratch over the weekend and good luck!

Trust me there were MAJOR reasons! I dont normally quit my job unless i have naother one lined up ready to go. As you say, money is going to be the issue fairly rapidly!

Sometime it does seem as though people quit thier job on the spare of the moment but I didn't ..... after a harrowing month or so or political c**p and other b******t I had a week off to assess my future and on the Friday decided to quit my job .

I had no job to go to and no plans ..... I was in a not very good financial position and this on the surface seemed the most stupid thing I had ever done in my life time... but the job was making me ill.

Luckly for me I telephoned a few good agencies and started temping on the Monday....

My advice to you would be to contact some agencies TODAY, if your profession allows,as you still have time and GOOD LUCK for the future

www.reed.co.uk are quite good as they cover ALL types of jobs in ALL areas.

Good luck - I have had to quit a job before on the spur of the moment - my boss was an idiot (polite!), but luckily got a new one the following week.

What is it you do?

Ok in that case, maybe you should be contacting all IT depts in the large firms in Sheffield. Also going to a specialised IT recruitment consultant...

Unfortunately they only have 1 job, but you could send them your CV.

If not, move to London, there are loads of jobs here.

sometimes you need to quit your job to get THE FEAR! :)

if you have no motivation to get another job you could be stuck in one you hate for years and years and look back to think `oh i was going to quit 2 years ago, and i will'...more years pass......

if you don't like your job you are a brave person to quit. most people just sit there and put up with the badness.

what do you want to do?

if you want to work part time why not try the Showroom. it would be nights though but there are plenty of lovely cool girls working there

;)

Thats two questions! :P

GCSE's 5 A-C's
A Level Computing
AVCE ICT
2 Years technical Support experience
3 Months IT Technician
8 Months "Trainee IT Consultant" - Basically a monkey doing nothing really IT related.

Im looking for an IT Technician/Juniour Network Enginer/1st or 2nd Line Support type role in Sheffiled, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsely, Leeds or anywhere else local-ish. Im looking for around £14-15K sallary and dont mind working late but dont want a job that makes me work weekends! (Canals you know..).
