i have just recieved a yellow bellied turtle of a friend but they never had up under any heat lamps. i have been looking for one and while i was on ebay i came across something called a turtle topper its a box that fits to the side of the take for the turtle to bask in just wondering if anyone knows where i could get one from in the uk,and any other info about these turtles would be usefull, and where are the best shops for turtle stuff thanks
The Lizard Lounge on Holme Lane do stuff like these, and the guys are both very friendly and helpful

Well the type you have is called a slider, as it basks onland, then slides back into the water...
this is the basics.
males stay small, very long front claws. females get very very big!
You need, as you said, a basking light, i just used 150w bulbs...spots. which was over a island, or a large tank with a slope at one end. the turtle must be able to get totally out of the water, right under the spot light.
a UV tube...and starter
they crap a lot (ok one isnt so bad....16 was!!) and as they eat IN the water (impossible really to eat on land). it has to be kept pretty clean.
Some turtle foods are pretty bad...some good. cant remember off the top of my head on names, i also use to feed worms (some like em, some dont) and floating trout pellets.
Where are you? i think i have some books lying around, and i can show you lots of things and how i used to do mine. Im at Firth Park
im sure i have forgotten some things....havent kept reptiles etc for months but will come back to me.
