View Full Version : Pets that we would like, but cannot have!
Moonbird 09-10-2009, 21:21 After a recent thread where litlemermaid and myself were wishing longingly for ginger cats, I wondered what pet would you love to have if only you could?
It doesn't matter what it is just share with us the pet that you secretly long for...pics of said pet also welcome.
I will get the ball rolling...apart from my obvious longing for various cats and lurchers :hihi: I do long for my own chickens they seem to like me too (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d159/5critters/Imagej.jpg) :hihi:
I'm afraid I'm a bit predictable (http://www.hunting-directory.co.uk/gallery/colnevalley/257.jpg) :hihi:

mummysaz21 09-10-2009, 21:31 well this sounds realy sad and very stupid becouse most people could get them, but i would love an aquarium, like the full set up and things liek obv the fish but crabs and stuff aswell, but i dont know anythign abotu doing it and looking at prices there far to expensive, the reason i would wana do this is becouse my brother always had them and by god he adord them and spent a fortune always had gorgous set ups and unfortunatly he passed away so it would be like my memorial for him, bit sad i know but liek you say we can all dream lol
I would like enough land and to be financially stable enough to re home breeding bitches and ex stud dogs and just give them a chance of a normal life but weims are always the closest to my heart definatly my soul dogs

 Aww mummysaz21 that's a bit of a bitter sweet post, I wish that I could give you a lovely tank with everything in it now.
There are often tanks for sale and some are really nice and not to expensive, just build it up over time, I used to love my fish as well, but now the house is to small for a tank :(
oi! this is supposed to be a picture thread you two!!

spottie2101 09-10-2009, 21:37 If i won the lottery i would take in bull breeds in a kinda rescue forever home sanctuary.

Very commendable Seadog that would be a great thing to do :)
If we are talking lots of land these (http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2007/09/26/goats_lead_wideweb__470x352,0.jpg) will be mine as well as chickens when I win the lottery and get my small holding, I just love pygmy goats :D
I want ALL OF THEM. Just all of them. :D
Moonbird 09-10-2009, 21:47 I want ALL OF THEM. Just all of them. :D
:suspect: Now that's just plain greedy :hihi:
I would love to have a baby lion all of my own! My brother-in-law in Kenya works on the Masia Mara, and has 4 baby lions at present! They feel like scrubbing brushes really but I would love one for a while ,! maybe not when they get bigger as they would hog the bed at night but very warm on a cold winters night.
My cleaner is desperately in love with the idea of having half a dozen pygmy hedgehogs. Can't see the attraction myself though.

We have had 3 come to stay here , they are funny but even funnier they live wild in africa and you can see them at night running round your gardens lol they are quite speedy.

Starlet83 09-10-2009, 22:17 I would like another dog.... OH have I told you today how amazing you are and that I lurve you very much????
So can we have one????
helenasq 09-10-2009, 22:19 I'd love a micro pig. Saw them on the news earlier this week and fell in love with them.
thanks moonbird and strix i hate computers sometimes when i am trying to post things thanks xxxx
Starlet83 09-10-2009, 22:20 Seadog your dogs are beautiful! :D
bogwoppit 09-10-2009, 22:22 I would dearly love a St Bernard, have dreamed of one since being a kid. A horse also comes very high. Saying that I dream of having most animals!
Top of the realistic list is a blue rex rabbit...
I would love to rescue a fox as well, they are one of my favourite wild animals. I have looked after a lot of hedgehogs in the past and an albino one living in the garden would be top.
I'm gonna stop cos the more I think about it the more I just want EVERY single animal out there!
thanks starlet I would love to win the lottery and rehome hundreds and buy a old castle and just let them have a easy comfy life instead of being in fear and being badly treated i can dream
bogwoppit 09-10-2009, 22:25 I'd love a micro pig. Saw them on the news earlier this week and fell in love with them.
I would dearly love one of these too, I love pigs and one of this size is perfect! I am trying to talk the farm into getting a pair at some point, along with some mangelitsas (wooly pigs) http://www.themeatclub.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/mangalitsa-pigs.jpg

:hihi:They look like very upper class pigs don't they? they would look lovely in a floral dress and a straw hat...sorry drifting off into the realms of fantasy there for a second :P
sarahjane 09-10-2009, 22:28 I'd like a killer whale but it would never fit in my bath :(

They suddenly seemed to appear about 6months ago, dubbed as "sheep pigs". Cannon Hall and Chatsworth have them but haven't had chance to see one in the flesh as it were.
They would definitely suit a straw hat, although my fantasy is now taking me animal farm way which isn't a good way to think of pigs!
I'd like a killer whale but it would never fit in my bath :(
Your killer whale can go in the same pool as my beluga ;)

And i'd love a dog, infact i'd love lots of dogs.

theres been quei a few second hands one on here, there was one for 100pounds, looked great but with it being before crimbo i just cant, but the ones i have seen have been around 200 which i just cant afford, not only that i know nothing about how to care for them, which is why it seams daft getting one but at same time its the only thing i want to do in his memory, then i can teach my son all bout his uncle he never met and its somewhere we can go to think of him, rather nice i think, well find the perfect one one day im sure:hihi:

thats what i want strix lol theres ya pic, well something similar anyway
It's really simple I would like three dogs all together. An English pointer, a vizsla and Damon. It will never happen though as my house is too small, I would not want to annoy the neighbours and I don't think Damon would fancy sharing! :(

In about 10 years time I might get my wish but unfortunately I doubt D will still be with us.
I would love a Thai ridgeback dog, haven't got a pic but if you google images you will see how truly gorgeous they are.

damon looks a real sweety evei
damon looks a real sweety evei
 He is a very sweet dog and normally quite calm and chilled. Unfortunately most other dog walkers only see him when he is being a pain! He's also bigger than he looks on photos (about large labrador size).
Damons favourite dog is a female red ridgeback that he loves playing with and lets her do anything to him... tempted to look at the site now

Wow, there is apparently only a hundred or so in the country. Someone must be missing her or a breeder must have a good idea which litter she belongs to. How sad :(

Sometimes there are advantages to singledom, I am lucky in so much as I found someone in the end just as bad as me :hihi:
I must admit moonbird after being on my own for 10 yrs before i met my partner he has grounded me to a certain extent in some ways which is very good as in i am not out rescuing animals 24/7 but sometimes i must admit i do miss being totally surronded by doggies
I would love to have a tame Wolf as a pet reared from a pup. They are the most beautiful dogs in the canine family and have beautiful eyes.

too true! he nearly left when I got my last OES girlie who is totally gorgeous by the way LOL:hihi:! I thought it was a fair swap ( only joking)
Moonbird 10-10-2009, 10:42 I would love to have a tame Wolf as a pet reared from a pup. They are the most beautiful dogs in the canine family and have beautiful eyes.
To Seadog...I know just what you mean actually, I feel very weird saying it but I love dog society and being with them, I have had them for so long and multiple dogs that I think I understand them very well, we rub along very nicely, worst thing is that they are very dependant on me...we are a pack
Billo Wolves are truly beautiful animals, wouldn't it be fantastic to have that special relationship with one? I know that I would like it too.
well on occasions i do threaten to swap him for a pack of weims
I think the feeling of being wanted and also the feeling of wanting to belong is very strong in my experiance if i am sad or upset the dogs lift me strange i know but i feel very much at peace with animals, certainly far more with animals than some humans
ps the fact that i always wear a hat and baggy coats to hide my ears and tail have nothing at all to do with it honest
Ooh where do I start. I would love to live by the sea and have a killer whale that visits me like Willie in Free Willy, always found them stunning. I would also love another pair of Chinese water dragon lizards really miss the two I had, but don't have the right lifestyle to put in what they need now.

I told my friend about saskia the blue ridgeback, and she has gone to see her. I will update you when she tells me more. By the way she already owns a thai ridgeback girlie too so she may just be the experienced home they are looking, for fingers crossed.
By the way I am so jealous!!!!
Oh max that would be so good, apparently saskia is a real sweety,Please let us know what happens I will keep my fingers crossed
seadog
I've just been on the site and it says she is rehomed so will have to see if karen was the lucky person who has got her, fingers crossed
Oh well i hope your friend was lucky and saskia has gone to a wonderful forever home,As I said let us know and if it was your friend tell her we need picciesssssssssssss
Just spoke to the rescue ddb It seems like your friend went to see saskia yesterday and has rehomed her hope it all works out ok I love happy endings:):)
yes seadog I have had a message from her and she has got the lovely saskia, she is going to ring me later so I can get to know more.
Oh that is good news:banana::banana::banana:
angellic 11-10-2009, 12:34 I'd have 20 rottweilers if I could, my favourite breed in the whole wide world!!
hels1977 11-10-2009, 14:16 I'd love an GSD bitch, sadly time and current house means it's just not an option, but one day.... when I live in a house with a bigger garden surrounded by acres of perfect dog walking and work from home (or don't work), oh yes, then I'll get my GSD.
i want a skunk ^^ one day .....
i want a skunk ^^ one day .....
I'm sure I've seen a skunk on a lead in meersbrook park one afternoon, then again I was not wearing my contacts so it could have been a dog
cuddlycats 11-10-2009, 17:32 I want some of these or pygmy goats :love:
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.juliesjungle.com/pictures/frostykids.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.juliesjungle.com/nigeriangoat.php&usg=__-tE6_knDtu6PFQCTdXT2oAVDnKU=&h=384&w=384&sz=36&hl=en&start=16&um=1&tbnid=JQyQPTqCIuSsVM:&tbnh=123&tbnw=123&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpygmy%2Bgoat%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26 client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1
I'm sure I've seen a skunk on a lead in meersbrook park one afternoon, then again I was not wearing my contacts so it could have been a dog
no there was one that used to live in that area :) they are kept as pets, not for the faint hearted tho :hihi:
evildrneil 11-10-2009, 17:57 I want a pet Okapi - if just to confuse people!
If I could have anything at all, I'd actually like a little family of common or garden hedgehogs. I've had log piles, and wee boxes with special hog food inside (which I think is actually cat biscuits) and the only thing that bothers with it are flaming squirrels :(
Anyone want to swap?
I would love a horse - I miss riding loads!! (and its very unfair as my sister has 9 - but then they are all ponies and too squidgy for my liking.... give me shire crosses or any heavy breed :)
In fact give me a smallholding and I would be away!! lol goats sheep hoses donkeys ferrets chickens -oooooo and yes ducks... I would love a duck or five!!
Need that lotto win.....perhaps could tghen buy that farm and have mine and moonbirds herd of cows too!! lol
Or a zoo then Id really go wild!! lol
(edit to say I have managed the chickens and ferrets - but more space would mean more chucks and a ferret mansion for the 8 fuzzy ferrets!!)
I want a pet Okapi - if just to confuse people!
okapis are cool :D rather have a zebra though
angellic 11-10-2009, 19:07 Come to think of it I fancy a tiger or a bear
LitleMermaid 11-10-2009, 22:41 I'd pretty easy to please-as Moonbird mentioned in the OP, I just want another ginger cat-I miss my girl, and Jeremy, so much!
More surreally-is that even a word? :hihi: - I would love love love a huge shaggy maned lion to snuggle upto every day-but a lion that was tame, obviously. Don't want to wake up minus a limb or two! Or capybara (http://montaraventures.com/pix/capybara.jpg) which is basically a humongous guinea pig
BLADE8T1 11-10-2009, 23:00 When I watched the kakapo bird on last chance to see last week,I thought at the time how cool it would be to have one of those:hihi:.
for those who missed heres a youtube snippet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T1vfsHYiKY
absolutely brilliant, although a little frisky lol
sarebear1982 12-10-2009, 09:53 Too many to choose!
The list so far stands at Horses, more dogs, chickens, pigmy goats maybe pig?
OH wants ferrets aswell as more fish tanks
One day ...................... Goes off to dream
baby tiger67 12-10-2009, 10:03 oooooohhhhhhhhh id love an african grey, they fascinate me. i also love cats too, would love a cat but my partner is not struck on them, but im always free to foster one for a short while, if desperate, lol, hint hint.
KATIEB_23 12-10-2009, 10:24 Apart from my eternal dream of winning the lottery and having a house & gardens big enough to rescue dozens of poor doggies...
I would love a MONKEY!! :hihi:
When we were in Bali we fell in love with them - sooo cute - and wanted to steal one... but would never actually do that in real life as it wouldn't be fair on the monkey. (anyone see that prog 'My Monkey Baby'?? Weird. Damn weird.)

Lupa Domina 13-10-2009, 18:38 I 'own' everything anyway, simply by being on the planet.
No point wishing to keep things I am already responsible for.
As above so below
Would love to have a retired greyhound - there is something about them.
Unfortunately a dog of any kind wouldn't fit into my life at the moment
I'd love a rat myself, they're lovely when you raise them to be social.
I won't get one unless there's a young one for adoption though, I disagree with paying to have control over a creatures entire life. It just seems wrong.
carpetviper 15-10-2009, 11:45 I would like a Komodo Dragon and have it live in the house like a dog.
Pity they cost around £10,000.00 as babys thats if and when they are available to buy there is a guy down south who owns one
