View Full Version : Why do posts related to the forum get locked without a discussion?

Although this forum is about Sheffield and non-Sheffield related things, whenever a thread comes up about the forum or modding it gets locked almost immediately.

This (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51689) is the latest example.

Although the final message before locking is about "use the contact link", is the forum itself not a valid subject for discussion?

As far as I can see, locking the thread (in genuine query cases) only raises more questions and the possibility of yet another thread opened titled "why was my thread locked" - therefore wasting precious storage space.

You never know, user discussion may actually bring some good ideas.

I've been PMing with a mod (nameless!) about this and apparently the reason they close a thread of that nature (it was mine that you're referring to that was closed) is because too many people seize the opportunity to hop on the bandwagon and just grumble about mods etc etc.

Which is a shame, because I'd have preferred to have a bit of a discussion as to whether we the users would like to have a note posted to say 'this thread has been pulled' rather than certain threads vanish without trace.

I hear the mods' view that it's better to contact one of them direct to ask a question, but if I do that then it's just my opinion, and I might be out of step with everyone else in which case I certainly don't want a change of policy thank you very much!

The first rule of SheffieldForum is : "You don't talk about SheffieldForum"

The second rule of SheffieldForum is : "You don't talk...(*SLAP* - that's enough of that - Ed)

We've explained this on numerous occasions.

They usually degenerate in to long discussions about how lousy the Mods are, why certain threads were pulled, etc.

If people PM me with their ideas, I will pull them together and we will raise them with Geoff and the other Mods at some point in the future when we are in a position to work on the suggestions.

I'm thinking about launching a 'Suggestions' thread soon, but until then just PM me or use Contact Us.

This isn't us being awkward - just because you guys start a thread is no indication that anyone who can do anythng about the suggestions raised will find it to read it!

And yep, I'm locking this thread. Work with us on this and we'll see what we can do.
