View Full Version : Rubbish outside the Co-Op (Manor Park)
I wonder how many other people at Manor Park have noticed the rubbish, day after day piling up at the back of the Manor Park Co op Shop.
The red metal container or rubbish bin is far too small for the amount of rubbish which is put in and anyone with any common sense can see that they either need a bigger bin or an extra bin to house the rubbish.
The rubbish is not locked off in a compound like it was supposed to have been when the shops were refurbished so we now have rubbish blowing all over the back of the shops.and into our gardens.
The people that work in the shop don't bother to pick any of it up. Young people last Saturday night took the bin for a ride and then tipped it over in the middle of the road it was full.
I have wrote and telephoned on several occasions to the boss of the Co op he has never returned my calls or letters.
This is the caring sharing Co -op
Moon Maiden 09-12-2003, 20:16 Don't tar them all with the same brush Maureen ;). The caring sharing co-op were recently involved in trying to stop a burglary of their local library at Frectchville.
I have to say I am biased being that I have a very close relative who works for them and I have passed this message onto see what they can get Manor Park to do about the problem.
Each co-op is individually responsible for the way the shop is run - it's annoying because it looks badly on the rest of them - who for the most part, try their best to sort things like this out.
Moon Maiden
Thanks Moon Maiden at least you read and responded !
Call the Environmental Health at the Council (the number is in the Sainsbury's Milk thread). They can and will clean it up and charge the CoOp for the trouble. They should soon get the message. I wouldn't imagine that a Manager will relish having to explain to his boss why they have a bill from the Council to clean up their mess.
james spader 10-12-2003, 15:01 You should complain to head office at castle house.
Maureen- One solution there dear, hit them swiftly with your handbag ;o) (joking)
Manor Park is a pretty bad area as far as vandalism goes.. but they're just undisciplined kids who know no better so give 'em a bit of slack yeah?
Moon Maiden 10-12-2003, 15:20 The problem isn't the kids - it is the staff not clearing up properly that don't help the kids inthe first place.
Moon
Perhaps the staff are fed up with having to clear it up? Would you want to go out in the bitter cold night after night clearing up garbage? I think not love ;o)
Moon Maiden 10-12-2003, 15:28 well no - but that is essentially what they are paid to do i.e their job. And the taking things out to the bin is part of their job.
There are health and safety issues involved for which the co-op can get linched for if not maintained.
Moon Maiden
I spent about 45 minute picking up the rubbish from my front garden and around my neighbours garden, the side of our house and off the road Tuesday (we do this regular)
I went out for 3 hours and when I came back the rubbish was all over again. Partly because the bin man had been and dropped some of the rubbish when emptying and the other was takeaway cartons and bags from the hot food shop in the co op which have been used.
Refurbishment of the shopping area was meant to have made this area better. We have lived here for 20 years and this environment never looked like this even when the shops where in a run down state.
We have never seen anyone yet come out with a brush and shovel to shift the rubbish which accumulates day after day around the back doors or the pavement at the front of the shop. Somedays its a real mess at the front
I approached a Manager and asked if they could not sweep up or do something about it. He said if he asked the staff they would only tell him its not their job.
So if the manager can't ask the staff to do something then who can!
I've tried the higher up at Castle house spoke to him once, wrote letters etc and he does'nt reply or return the calls
The environmental people do know about the rubbish and have approached the Co op, the bin is supposed to be getting emptied daily now! I am waiting to see it, if its still the same after Christmas I'm going to go mad..........
Post all the rubbish you collect back into their letterbox until they sort it out?
Theres no letterbox only shutters
Good for you Mo for going to the Environmental Health. Keep on top of them. A tip for you - they EH go a lot faster and harder if they get reports of rats around the rubbish - so make sure that you report any sightings.
royjames 12-12-2003, 13:39 WellI go up manor top on a regular basis and I think some of these comments are slightly over the top anyway the only way to improve the area is to educate people that dropping litter is socially unaceptable . we need to stop the problem before it begins?.
Moon Maiden 13-12-2003, 09:10 Something for you maureen - I know it isn't a solution to the problem but it is at least a start.
Moon
Hi Maureen,
I am the duty manager - currently - employed at Fretchville. I would like to apologise for the apparent attitude of certain people employed by the co-op.
We are not all like this. Following a similar complaint made at Fretchville we ensured any mess was cleaned up promptly. At this time of year it is extremely difficult to find the staff with time to spare to carry out duties that would otherwise not be a problem.
I will try and sort something out concerning your problem and can only apologise for the trouble you are having.
Duty Manager at Fretchville
Thanks to the manager at Frechville, we sometimes come to your shop rather than visit this one, I have said before what a big differnce there is at yours to this one.
Have just been rung up by Environmental Services who told me that they have been monitoring the situation. They have spoken to the manager who has blamed Onyx for missing collections. However, they were not convinced and have told the manager to either arrange for more collections or put in an extra bin.
Environmental Services will continue to monitor the situation and have promised to let me know what happens.
i walk past the back of the coop daily and never see much rubbish sometimes the bin is full but thats more then likely waiting to be emptyed.
they could have another bin but i am sure 2 bins would look worse and something else for the kids to mess with.i doubt that two bins would fit in there warehouse without blocking fire exits so what can they do. as for its the worse it has ever looked how can you say that there is nothing there it used to be alot worse.and another thing is the land not also got a bookies a chemist a chippy and pub backing onto it. the staff put up with loads of hassle from kids so i for one would not blame them if they dont move the local thugs on from outside at night what do they earn a fiver a hour.
sidewinder 14-04-2006, 09:46 Maybe there's nothing to see now because the complaints and the most recent post were made two years ago? Hopefully this means its been sorted out now, hope so :)
alirosdan 14-04-2006, 12:12 I would guess this is a pretty common problem where there are shops. There is a sandwich shop and a 'corner shop', both with bins outside, very close to my house. Kids buy food/sweet/pop on their way home from school and by the time they reach my house they have finished with the wrappers and throw them into my garden. I have just spent the whole morning with my little boys, fishing litter from the garden (again). Can't only blame kids though because there are empty beer cans and milk bottles etc. It's soooooo frustrating.
I don't want to turn this into a kid bashing thread but I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) any of the replies say "don't do it kids" My grand children wouldn't dream of going out and upsetting a rubbish bin.
fox20thc 14-04-2006, 15:18 I think shops should be held responsible for litter within a perimeter of their store. After that  we have to just pick it up.
Unfortunately many people who claim to be of the wombling variety would step over rubbish rather than pick it up and put it in a bin.
If we all picked up one piece of litter everyday that wasn't ours just think how much tidier the city would be. :)
You're wrong fox. It is the litter dropper who is responsible NOT the shop.

Mmm well I think Macdonalds/subway/KFC are responsible. I remember that the old wimpy on fargate used to have litter patrols. Every hour they would go out and clean the area in front of the shop.
 Sorry but it's STILL the dropper at fault. I know it would be ideal for the shop to be responsible BUT it's like the same people walking out of a supermarket and dropping there bread wrapper/bacon /soapowder box etc. DON'T DO IT. Sorry for shouting but it really is one of my pet hates.

But we bring our kids up not to touch stuff that's on the floor don't we cos it's dirty.....
Well, it might be and unless we carry disposable gloves round with us then I would still tell them this.We don't know WHAT we would be picking up.:gag: :gag:
sheshe is right, it's back to the principle of taking your own rubbish home with you if you can't find a bin to put it in.
What was the slogan....
Keep Britain Tidy........ and we'll all benefit.
The General 16-04-2006, 21:47 the top and bottom of this isnt the individual stores, as some posters on here would have you belive its down to the upper managers at castle house, who realy dont care about the state of the stores or the health and saftey of their staff, let alone how much rubbish is outside the stores. its all about the cash and how much thay can screw from the staff and customers with the minimum of effort.
if anyone looked into these stores in more detail ie the fire service and health and safty exec and especcialy the food hygene people most of them would be in bother. i personaly have seen store managers and upper managers blatantly lie to all of these groups, as the story about onyx will have been a lie. (the manager is a grate guy but one hell of a bullsh**er)
i know all this cos i worked for them for a number of years and the stuff thay get away with is amazing.
dont eat anything off the fresh sections it could be realy bad for your helth.
p.s moon maiden dont belive the hype (hows chris these days?)
general whos the bullsh*ter the manager or the big bosses did you work for em
The General 19-04-2006, 23:21 both.
the things that go on in the co-op would put you off for life. these inc starting with fresh food, raw and cooked meats kept in same place, same utencills choping boards etc used for both, staff travelling to and from work in thire uniform, smoking on breaks then back to work without washing hands, staff going to the loo without washing hands. out of date shop floor food cooked on deli/cafe, no cleaning plans on delis ets (A QUICK WIPE WILL DO) ovens etc under counters hot boxes etc not cleand for months.
go to the stores without roll in milk fridges and have a look uner the shelf the milks that rotted its gone solid and mouldy.
as far as the lieing goes..... questions like do you do this that and the other that you are supposed to do the answer is always yes!!
ive seen people working that were so drunk from the night before that thay couldnt even stand (myself inc) at work. using tills slicing machines etc.
there are no fire alarms in 80% of the stores.
have a walk round you will find loads of out of date stuff, the date cheks are never done properly and as for price changes who cares!
staff are set on on the basis of will you work untill 10oclock at night not on anytthing else. the staff get stuffed aswell. good friday isnt a bank holiday but the tuesday after is. it saves them a fortune as across the company its the quietest day with the least staff in.
as for ja*** at manor park he could bullsh** his way out of iraq.ha ha.
The General 19-04-2006, 23:23 p.s j.parr yes i did
and hows it going you you old b***s**** you.
and you know its as bad as all that and worse
general pm me you got me going now lol
The General 24-04-2006, 08:49 i dont want to. i would rather stay unknown to the masses.
however i do rember a certain manager being so drunk on a sat morning that he went outside to sleep in the back of his car, left all the car doors wide open ( with his feet hanging out of one side) and there he stayed for a good couple of hours.
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hows it going.. o.... i was ok till you woke me up
The General 25-04-2006, 21:44 damn you may have sussesd me there, allthough i could be M*** H***.
u never know.
anyhow what you going to to about this rubbish problem you seem to have?
you could get off your backside in the office, stop drinking tea and go and pick it up. now that is a revolutionary idea for you. hahahahahahah.
p.s do you think the upper managers read this board? i bet mr sm sm sm smi smi smi smi** got a rollocking the other week if thay read the posts about birley the other week. haha
