There has been a lot in the news recently about religious fundamentalism and the recent events in Bulgaria have brought up the topic of football hooliganism. Of course , news about the far -Right and Nazism are ALWAYS newsworthy.
This got me thinking that all three had quite a lot in common, i.e. the Nuremburg Rallies , the Revivalist Religious meetings and the football match.
You could add a few more on I suppose but you get the general idea.
They all have the heart-stirring music , either before or during the Main Event. In the case of the football match and Nuremburg , colour was [is ] very important.
Acting and thinking , "as one " , even though in a vast crowd is common to all three.The ability , not to just suspend thinking but to , "blank out " any thinking that doesn't conform is another aspect of all three.
The appearance of a , "God-like " figure is common to all too.
In the case of football and the political mass rally , the desire to go out , after the meeting with the intention of searching out the opposition and beating them up.
However , the thing that really appeals to all three , "congregations " is that they don't have to bother thinking for themselves -----that's the Leader's job !!
Bertrand Russell once said , "Most people would die , rather than think ; in fact they do. "
