View Full Version : Don't park your car near Bramall Lane....
Just thought i should warn people that its not safe leaving your car around this area. Last saturday i was parked for about 3 hours on the road behind st mary's church and when i came back, my car was broken in to and cd player gone. Luckily they didnt smash the window to get in, they just picked the lock but it wasnt very nice to come back to. :( i have spoken to some people i work with and 2 others have had the same thing happen in recent weeks.:(
sorry to hear that, do you have car alarm???

The cemetry whilst visiting my brothers grave...
That's not really on. Sorry to hear that.
Our's has been broken in to so many times now that we've started to laugh about it. The last clever lot levered the door open a bit so that they could stick something in and pull up the 'knob'. They failed to realise that the lock (3rd replacement lock) is held in with No More Nails and that a 5p coin will open it just fine. Idiots.
We've found that never leaving the front of the stereo in the car seems to help, as does leaving the glove box open so that they can see that it's not in there.
It makes me really angry when I think that some cretins think that they can just take something that isn't theirs. If I ever catch them at it I will ensure they don't do it again.
why would you ever leave the front on a removal front stereo?
To be fair, i don't move it far, but it's certainly not on the stereo or visible.
No sensible person would leave the front of a stereo on. But many people "hide" it in the glovebox, in the door pocket or under the seat. Thieves break in and look in these places in the hope of finding it. Leaving the glove box open gives them the opportunity to see it's not in there. That may make them think twice about breaking in on the off-chance of finding it.
sorry to hear about your car :(
when i was a student i lived just round there - the house was owned by a private landlord and we were the only one of two student houses on the street.
loads of cars got broken into all the time, there was rubbish all over the streets, we got broken into at 10am one morning when we were in the house, the house next door to us was raided by armed police as they were drug dealers.
not a nice part of sheffield at all :(
Get a seat arosa or vw lupo...
they dont have a glovebox, so handy just having a shelf lol :)

Coz it's the only bit you can actually remove at all from a factory-fitted vauxhall, without taking the whole dashboard. Plus the fact that (as my brother kindly pointed out  ) they sound tinny no matter what you do with the 'tone' knob :D

?
you'd leave it because it's the only bit you can remove???
or because it sounds tinny. I must be missing somehting.
lalaland 29-07-2005, 14:24 This can happen all over Sheffield to be honest. A couple of years ago my car was broken in to and the tosser stole my stereo and coat while it was parked on a backroad just of Ecclesall Road in Greystones.
It's annoying, but scum seem to roam around and help themselves to our property leaving damage and expense behind them.
The good news is that the Police are currently using specially set up cars to catch this tossers with. If they break in they get stuck and the Police are alerted. I think they should be upgraded to open a nest of wasps in there too, but some may not agree with my tough on crime approach.
Mine got broken into down Bramall road about 7 months ago. And it was bloody freezing driving it back home without any passenger windows in the snow...
Hope you get your car sorted out ok. That's another bloody annoyance these cretins cause - lots of phone calls and paper work. Bahhh

I cant believe you guys leave anything in the car at all. They can have my road map (out of date) and £2 power adapter if they break into my car.
Don_Kiddick 30-07-2005, 08:46 Someone broke into my brown Lada & left me a tenner :D
feederfil 30-07-2005, 08:59 My son-in-law parked his VW Karada at the rear of the Standard and when he went back after finishing work some nobhead had been throwing bricks at it!!
There was dents in the roof ,doors and the bonnet it was too badly damaged for him to afford it himself! So another claim on insurance that we all have to pay for just so some nobhead can 'enjoy himself' .
What is needed is the birch or three strikes and out ,down for 5 years minimum. We've tried the soft approach (they are victims of society) now is the time to get tough!!!

I live in Arbouthorne too and wouldn't leave a packet of opened crisps unattended, let alone a car.
We once had a car and the kids broke into it 3 times and took out the back window, until we decided to call it a day and get the bus. GGGGRRRRR. :(
Really sorry to hear about your car though matey, it isn't nice and is very frustrating.
Don_Kiddick 30-07-2005, 09:39 Feederfil I agree; I suggest hard labour at £1 per hour earnings to repay the total cost of their wrong doing (including court costs & all other charges to the tax payer - even the admin cost of their punitive sentence).
By hard labour I dont mean tossing it off planting daffodills on a layby either.
Sorry to hear of your car break. I've had 3 in my time, and its so much of a headache.
One of my neighbours cars was broken into a couple of months ago, and all they stole was the steering wheel! whats that all about?

Sadly, it doesn't work. I figured that, with my 1 litre 1986 Polo containing nothing more than the Haynes Manual and the kids booster seat I'd be OK.
I now have a car with a missing window, ripped out ignition switch, broken steering lock, concave front wing and a broken bumper. And the booster seat is gone.
These people will take anything that isn't nailed down.
They even break in to steal disabled badges! I feel really sorry for everyone here who has had their cars broken into.
Thats what happens when they let the pigs out

The ironic thing is, the adverts say 'dont leave anything valuable on view' mmmmm, the badge is valuable but if you hide it you get a £40 ticket?!
Answer that Mr Crimestoppers advert man!!!
Can anyone suggest a 'safer' place to park in Sheffield? Where is the best place to park? I used to park near Claywood but friends say they have had their cars broken into there.
*Twinkle* 03-08-2005, 17:11 I'm afraid its a risk leaving your car anywhere. Cars can be broken into in posh places as well as rough areas. Try visible deterrants such as steering locks/them locks that hold onto your gear stick and hand brake... Obviously don't leave anything out at all... and try leaving the glove box open, to show you have not stashed a CD player front in there...
These are just basic things really... Sorry I can't come up with a miracle cure to keep your car safe... Mine's just as vulnerable.
Once had me car nicked from outside the house. luckliy the police found it and the only damage was the lock. Usually when thry find cars thye are burnt out.
Same thing happened to me, I had my car stolen from outside my house (in Heeley) - they actually came in through my back kitchen door (which I had stupidly left unlocked, mea culpa) and stole my car keys, then took the car. Luckily the car was found abandoned somewhere in Arbourthorne, CD player gone but no actual damage. Oddly, they had actually parked the car neatly, locked it and left it secure, but taken the keys with them. Even more oddly, it had been reported as "suspicious" by a kindly and eagle-eyed Arbourthorne resident, and found by the police, half an hour before I even reported it stolen (at 7am)
from my parents house a vauxhall nova and an old escort have been stolen 3 times between them. The newer cars, none of them have been touched.
So, if you can, get a decent car and joy riders won't bother trying because they know they can't get it running. The alarm is also a deterrant, and couple that with nothing left on show and it's not worth someones time to break in just to take a look.
Although that said, we think we found signs of someone having tried to break into the SO's polo, it looks like someone had pliers around the passenger side door lock/handle, which left some marks and damaged the mechanism, didn't get in though.
lalaland 03-08-2005, 22:36 My mate had a Focus ST (think that's what it was called). It was quite flashy for a Ford and was meant to be their sporty version.
Anyway, they lived in Greenhill and some smack head from Jordanthorpe way grabbed a slab of concreate from their garden and jumped through the window to get their keys. This was while they were in the house and watching TV in the next room!
They managed to get away with the car, although the Police caught them later and managed to proscute them for it.
The funny thing was, well sort of funny, that at that moment in another part of the city another mate of mine was sat with two Police officers giving a statement about how the same guy had walked through their front door and tried to nick the keys to his Subaru Impreza when they heard it over the radio.
What's the chances of that, two of my mates in the same night by the same smack head scum.
Anyway, the good thing is that the scum was caught and punished.
Albatross 04-08-2005, 01:20 A chap I worked with used to leave a key through the letterbox as his kids got home about 4.10pm and him not finishing work till 4pm got home about 4.30pm.
He got a phone call at work from the police at about 3.30pm one day. could he go home, someone had seen what they did with the key and tried to break in. He had an english bull terrier and the dog bit the hand as it went through the letter box and would not let go so they had the burgler sat calling for help on the doorstep outside his front door
His reply to the police was let him wait till I finish work at 4pm I am not loosing wages to let him free.
Ain't it nice when the criminal is the one's that are on the reciving end.
