View Full Version : Can I Get a Phone with multiple Ring Tones (but..)
I want a phone with multiple ring tones, depending on what what number is dialled.
I've got two lines, routed currently to the same phone / line. I want my land line to have one tone, and my business calls to another.
Does this technology exist?
Blade.boy 02-10-2009, 10:51 yes you change this go in to contacts then edit the you will see ringtone default touch it to change
zongamin 02-10-2009, 10:56 almost every phone made within the last 5 years has offered custom rings tones
no, he doesnt mean per contact, he means per line...
he has 2 lines, routed into one....
I believe this is possible but only with the expensive business class phones, that often require an internal mini business exchange... contact your phone provider, see what they recommend.
Thanks, Ghozer. I didn't know if it was available. Couldn't find anything searching and Curry's and other technical stores resorted to reading through the manuals (which was a bit useless).
I'll see what I can find out, but it would probably be cheaper just to get a cheap external second line...

Thanks for the post, but that would be great, had I two lines, but I don't. I have one with a second line routed to it.
zongamin 02-10-2009, 12:26 Sorry- I thought you meant a mobile phone - please ignore my answer

... similar to call diversion/forwarding?
Well, the calls are permanently routed to my phone, but it's the same principle.
I'll probably have to get a new line.
When the call is redirected does it show up as the number of the person calling or the number of the line it was redirected from? Quite a lot of landline phones have a function where if the call is from a number in it's phonebook it can play a different ringtone.
I got a 3 pack of really cheap wharfedale dect phones from Argos a couple of months ago and they can do this.

Super useful! I'll check it out!

I think they've got it the wrong way round. The type of phone that Cynic is talking about can assign different ringtones to different incoming callers, much in the same way as mobiles can (as mentioned in Blade Boy's post) not for 2 different numbers on the same line. For example, if John called you and you had his number saved in the phone it would have one ringtone, but if Dave called you then you could set a different ringtone. From what you are saying I imagine you want it to have different ringtones depending on if someone calls your business number or your home number. I'm not sure if this technology is readily available and it might be easier just to get another line fitted.

I think this was already clarified. It isn't 2 seperate lines, just a second number somewhere else that has all calls forward to the first number.
Is this correct Karis?
If this is the case and if the first number sees all calls from the second number identified as coming from it's own number (which I think is normal for forwarded calls) then you could assign a different ring tone to the second number.

Well he says that he has a two numbers routed to one phone, which I think is different from having one number redirected to another as both numbers will be based at one address (I'd imagine to save the cost of having another line fitted). If this is the case then i don't think your solution will work. Maybe he could clarify?

It does sound more like a single line with 2 numbers rather than 1 number forwarded to another now I read it again.
Hi there
Wow, this suddenly got complicated. I've got my home phone line 0114 number and then I've got an 0844 number which is permanently routed to my 0114 number. I can transfer it around if I like, but I wanted to try and see if it were possible to give a phone a different ring tone.
I'm going to speak to the 0844 number and see if I can find out more details.
ahh, the 0844 is forwarded to the 0114, it's not 2 physical numbers routed to one line, so you can't do what your after.
