Justice for Matt will make her Owlerton debut this Saturday evening at 20.55 in race number 7,she has been graded an A3 greyhound and will be running out of trap 3,she's in with some very experienced dogs but must have a chance.
we've had some very good media coverage and with the added good news that at last the greeks are getting their act together and justice may soon be done.
like to thank everyone who have shown us support with our purchase of molly, and i can assure you she'll be the best looked after greyhound in the country.

FACTS ! On mathews death R.I.P MATHEW.
POSTED BY MATHEWS MUM ON HIS CAMPAIGHN GROUP.

On July the 20th 2008 our son Matthew went off excitedly on holiday to the resort Laganas on the Greek island of Zante. He traveled with 4 friends and two of their parents. He had the warnings, you cant but help to give ringing in his ears. Keep safe, don't do anything stupid, use the sunscreen I`ve packed for you, don't drink too much and don't on any account hire a moped. We were worried because because it was his first holiday without us but never did we think he wouldn't come home to us.

In the early hours of the 21st of July the first night of his holiday Matthew died on the pavement in front of the cocktails and dreams club in Laganas. It was speculated upon that he had died through excessive alcohol intake, but this has been proved not to be the case.

A UK Coroners inquest held on the 27th of May 2009 found that Matthew had been unlawfully killed. In an unprovoked attack whilst he was sitting at the bar (having become separated from his friends) he was seized by the door staff and dragged outside and thrown down a steep flight of metal stairs as a result of which he sustained head injuries. Not content with this the bouncers then picked him up from the bottom of the stairs and dropped him onto the marble pavement by the side of the club, a bouncer at this time was also seen to punch him, Matthew died a short time later due to the head injuries he had sustained.

It was noted at the inquest that Matthew was not causing any trouble and though he had had a drink his blood alcohol level though raised was not a significant factor in his death. We can only speculate as to why the bouncers attacked him, maybe it was because he was alone and the thuggish bouncers just wanted an adrenaline rush.

Two Greek police officers stood by whilst our son lay dying they did nothing to help and were even intimidated by the bouncers into not taking statements from the witnesses there. An ambulance took over an hour to arrive, this ambulance is described as nothing more than a small van, no serious attempt was made to revive Matthew by the ambulance staff.

We have had little information from the Greek authorities, and it would seem they have not bothered to investigate our sons death in any way. They also retained Matthews heart until the end of November, this would have been a reasonable thing to do if it was to be tested and would have a bearing on how Matthew died, but it never got tested and we felt we hadn't buried our son whole.

We will continue in our quest to get justice for Matthew no matter what and how long it takes.

The UK coroner has reviewed the FACTS of the case, and has decided that this lad's death was an unlawful killing.

That's good enough for me. I hope that the people responsible are brought to justice.

Notice that things are getting a bit out of hand on this thread. I wonder, is it because Greyhound Racing is getting a bad press because of all the injuries and fatalities? I'm sure that everyone is shocked at the way Matt was treated and would be behind an enquiry into what happened to him. As for the Greyhound industry, well, it leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure the two issues compliment each other.

For the very last time, you are all being asked to remain civil. There has been a note to say that holidays will be issued should you not stay on topic. Let me remind you again that that is the case.

There is an existing thread regarding the rights and wrongs of greyhound racing, and all discussion of that should remain in there. We will also not tolerate off topic bickering.

Hi Eastbank

On another thread, when I questioned whether buying Swiss Roll/Molly was purely a business arrangement, you confirmed yes - that was 'correct' and went on to assure me that you had 'sold 62 shares that works out at £2480....got a spare £1480 at present...told the lads this dinner about your concern....if we needed a grand t'morrow for vets bills....could take us a few hours to raise it.....'

You have also stated that a separate bank account has been set purely for this business arrangement - are you now saying that is not correct?

Molly belongs to the Matthew Cryer Memorial Trust and shares valued at £40 were sold to friends and family, there are 100 on offer, when all are sold that makes £4000,Molly cost us £884 and we estimate our kennel bill will be about £160 a month,we are also hosting a fundraising day in the birley hotel to boost Molly's fund.
everyone attending know this....at our next meeting we may transfer cash to the account that helps the youth of the area....we are also having a sponsored walk to middlesbrough and a matthew cryer fundraising day on the fa cup final saturday.......
any money Molly recieves,at no time will a dividend be paid to any shareholder...
i mean if Molly had 10 races and won them all...the prize money would total about £900......that would give a return to each shareholder at less than a tenner....
what we would do is donate that to the trust fund...i mean better to give the kids the money than share it with people who don't really need the cash..
might say to our kid lets buy a greyhound it'll cost us a grand...and it will cost us a few hundred quid to keep it....and in return the prize money might just cover that....he'd say that's a right business idea...were did you get that one from......see jobied no matter how you put it across the ammount of publicity Molly has created is worth every single penny the lads have put in...ps she is now being rested for three weeks before she races again....top business man me letting our greyhound sit around while we pick up the bill...in fact i might just buy another greyhound myself because i can....what's money anyway...you can't take it with you....

i'd just like to thank jodieb and ginger daddy for giving me an insight into greyhound racing, they accussed me of exploiting Molly for personal gain and people who know me know that i've just about bought all my family a share in our greyhound.....with the wedge i lost on saturday i'm now down a few hundred quid....
but they got me thinking...if they say i'm guilty of the exploitaton of greyhounds i might as well look into if buying into the industry is a viable business opportunity...i've done some groundwork and found that one trainer alone raced 45 dogs last week....and that was at one meeting...even if none of them won a race he earnt himself...£1800.
not bad for 5 days work...
so cheers to my two new friends who may have opened another door for me..thank you

just to keep you updated about our molly, she is none too worse after her racing debut and was bounding about the paddock on sunday, and chasing the kids around the track..because she is now in season her racing days are curtailed for three weeks before she trials and if she reaches her allotted time then a race is on the cards,if not it's another couple of weeks rest....we have now got her sky tv in her penthouse suite and when we left her sunday she was sat watching lassie come home...what a life she's got..lovely in it...

If Molly is sidelined all this time it looks to me that owning a greyhound or training them does not look like a good business deal at all. Dogs still need feeding, vets bills, other overheads like staff wages, elecricity etc. No wonder the industry is on it's backside!

molly is in season....and no molly is not a business venture....at present she's cost us a grand with no return....but who cares it's only money
the real money in greyhounds is buying a dozen cheap dogs getting them to race six days a week....collect the racing fees which at present are about £40 a race even if the dog only gets in 10 races a month each dog brings in about 4/5 grand a year....you look at the top trainers they get in about 50 races a week......nice little earner...beats working for a living....
the bigger money though is in ireland where not only do they race a fluffy bunny round a track they chase real hares....

Did Molly get injured then in her race? She's having a very long season if not? I thought bitches were out for 3/4 weeks only. As for there being money to be made in the sport, i think you should look again at the figures. for a start theres only one 'top' trainer at Sheffield. Appearance money for an A3 race is around £25 at most tracks, the winner gets more obviously. To cover it's keep with a trainer a dog needs to run twice a week. Take into account seasonal rest, being off colour or injured and the owner is out of pocket. There are a lot of disgruntled owners wanting the prize money upped. From the trainers point, well, I wouldn't say it was easy money. All they need is a few owners to run up kennel bills and they are struggling. Paying staff is a big outlay [unless of course you employ people on the dole and pay peanuts]. To look after 25 dogs properly is more than enough work for one person if the dog is to be properly cared for. See another track [Swansea] closed this weekend.! The only people making big bucks in all this are the bookies.

Paying staff is a big outlay [unless of course you employ people on the dole and pay peanuts]. To look after 25 dogs properly is more than enough work for one person if the dog is to be properly cared for. See another track [Swansea] closed this weekend.! The only people making big bucks in all this are the bookies.

no molly is fine....and you are right a greyhound can race after 4 weeks but molly is not running til she has had 10 weeks off,no need to rush her back...we don't need the money...as for swansea shutting tough on the welsh...but we race at owlerton.....
if you are an owner/trainer and it's family run like in ireland there is plenty of money to be made out of the dogs...with selling on the pups.....
since we bought molly...we enjoy a good day at the dogs every thursday...well it beats working for a living....listen to the old timers and you can earn yourself a wedge....love it and the beer is only £1.50 a pint

I certainly don't begrudge anyone enjoying a night out, I just think those may be numbered. I mentioned Swansea because tracks are closing, I know many more across the country are struggling, admittedly Owlerton seems to one of the few keeping their heads above water. I'm still wondering why though you are 'resting' Molly? If she is fit to trial and then run is that not good for her career?

THIS IS TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH FROM GREEK PAPERS TODAY
....Cover it" the murder of Matthew
His parents believe that she was murdered in Zante, where he had gone holiday
REPORTAGE: Matina Irioti
Published: Wednesday, December 2, 2009

"It was the first time that Matthew went on his own vacation. We could not imagine that it will not see again the child. The Greek authorities the first time attempted to conceal the circumstances of his death, in Laganas, because they felt that in this way protect tourism in the island. Besides, two hundred thousand young Britons go annually in Zakynthos.
David O Kraier for about half the time looking for answers for the actual death of 17-year son of Matthew and also calls for "justice for their child. Matthew found himself psychorragei the morning of 22 July 2008 outside a bar in Laganas. At the hospital, which moved too late, just found his death. The coroner attributed the finding in the death of 17-year student in cardiac arrest as a result of excessive alcohol use. Ten months later, new forensic research in the UK this time, showed murder. Indeed, the family of Matthew refers to testimony, under which employees at the bar had pushed the child to be expelled from the store. The dropped down stairs and falling struck his head. The coroner Andrew Gotsis, who did the original autopsy and autopsy, speaking on "New" was categorical that found no injuries on the body of the young, despite the fact that the British colleague in his findings indicated that there were at least twenty chtypimatakakoseis, many which the head. "I remember the case," said Gotsis. "We saw injuries, and toxicology tests showed excessive alcohol use. In parallel, histological examinations showed abnormal findings.

Second autopsy
The coroner in the district of Derby-South Derbyshire, Robert Hunter, who made last May to the second autopsy (ten months after the tragic death of 17-year), concluded that it was murder. As stated in the Times of London, "the Greek police made no real effort to determine what caused the injuries to Matthew. The family of Matthew here and half that time trying to mobilize the British and Greek authorities to effectively investigate the case, accepting that the child had consumed alcohol. At the same time, however, complains that the heart of the child should be left up to the previous day in forensic laboratories. "If I had to be done and other tests would understand. But what has happened is that we bury the entire body of our child.

"We expect the Greek courts to begin proper investigation," he said "new" Mr Kraier. "We have sent all the documentation required, but there is a huge delay," he added.

Campaign
After the death of the child, the family of Matthew started the whole campaign of public opinion in Britain.

"It was his first night in Zakynthos. He had gone with four friends and two parents. He had given the advice that every parent would give his child: be careful not to drink too, to put sunscreen on, not standing on motorbike. We could not imagine that they would never see again, "says 44 year old David Kraier. "From the first time the police showed that there was available to investigate the case. Matthew is a victim of covert so as not to damage the tourism on the island, "replays.

OPPOSITE CONCLUSIONS
In Greece, the coroner attributed his death To the excessive alcohol and research in Britain showed murder!

Preparing to study in college

Matthew Kraier had just left school and was preparing to go to college to study engineering. He lived with his family in Sheffield and had even begun to work in fast food chain in order to contribute to the costs of education. It was a very popular kid, playing football matches and was a supporter of the Sheffield group.

His family after his death has notified all the elements of the case is available on the website www. justice4matthew.

com. Indeed, preventing young Britons to visit Zakynthos. Last August they delivered a memorandum signed by 12,000 people to the British prime minister and a few days ago informed that the copy was delivered to the Greek ambassador in London.

At the same time, his father has created a group on Facebook «Justice for Matthew David Cryer» already numbers 8,500 members.

"The child did not bring external injuries"

"The Case was clear from the beginning. The child did not bring external injuries and the coroner in Patras where diakomisthike the corpse found that cause of death was excessive use of alcohol, police sources report of Zakynthos. "The same young men who in the Department of Laganas testified that nothing had happened in England have said more, and described row. But it is possible, in a bar full up to the English one can not understand anything? If there was something suspicious and even more if someone had struck or pushed the young man, with nothing that could be concealed, "says the same sources.

However, the same police sources accept that the unfortunate student psychorragouse at least forty minutes on the sidewalk outside the club before an ambulance arrived. "At the same time had been calling for another incident. The result was in fact delayed the ambulance. So when Matthew Kraier arrived at the hospital, was dead. The doctors found his death.

no greyhounds are bred to race...not sit in doors to make you feel better....life is a risk....and molly was full of it today.....at present she gets well looked after and shortly when she retires....she can sit infront of the most expensive fire in the world....she will have earn't it....

you commented on me wanting her to settle infront of the fire....and matthew's family will certainly welcome our molly into the family home...you should see the kids playing with her in the paddock every sunday....ebony runs round while molly nods her very long hair....
at present molly is on the up and contributing to the campaign....she is now learning that she doesn't have to run through the pack..but bide her time and stay wide...and pick them off one by one...at present she is A2 and we want her to reach the top.....then retire to the family home....

Vanman10, Human races are not designed so that all the runners crash together at a bend causing injuries. As with any sport, humans know what risks are involved ie mountaineering, motor racing. Unfortunately animals are not aware of any danger to themselves. They are just acting on instinct. Being used to generate money and entertainment for people who should, in my view, have a more ethical outlook on the sport of dog racing.

you have got it...the dogs and horses are there to entertain just like lions and tigers in the circus...just like the bulls in spain and the dancing bears in eastern europe.
the dolphins and killer whales in disney world...its what animals do...and they love it...
mind you our molly is better looked after than some of those others...horse meat for her sunday dinner...whats up with pedigree chum...mind you she has had a pay rise so she deserves it....

From what I have read about them they don't sound like the sort of people I'd like to meet on a dark night! But then I have nothing to fear, not being an animal abuser. While I don't agree with the lenghts they go to they are defending the rights of animals. I must admit than when seeing a bull toss a matador into the crowd I shouted 'YESSSS!'. It was on the news by the way, Id never attend such a horrific event. I applaud your 'confident' attitude, should you ever get a 'visit', lets hope you can back it up!!

They are ok sneaking about, they don't turn up face to face at dog meetings race tracks etc for trouble.
I agree with some of their principles but like all other groups they take things to the extreme. If they are going to start visiting people for attending dog meetings and such things they want to be prepared for the compliment being returned.

Hilarious! me a member! Maybe if I was 30 years younger I could be tempted. I disagree with you that animal activists are a tiny minority, most people abhor cruelty, it's just a matter of how far individuals are prepared to go. If I was advocating such sports as bear dancing etc I certainly would be wary of ALF, they seem to have added Greyhounds to there interests lately. Don't underestimate them. As you rightly have pointed out, owning and racing a dog is not illegal but gloating about what is in many peoples views cruel could make you a target.

I have actually come across them twice before, both times fishing.

The first time they came down the Trent in canoes slashing away at the fishing lines and water with their paddles. They soon shot off when all the anglers bricked them.

The next time was on the misson and they were shouting at us, one of them shouted,

"Have you ever asked a fish if it wants a hook in it lip"

I replied

"I would if I could catch one that could talk".:hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:.....

the rise of the foot soldier is a film based on someone i knew years ago...and he deals with people who cross him...by nailing them to the floor...what they should do to those who mistreat animals...but not me..

our molly is back but not yet at her best...ran last friday and with the odds of 5/1 offered we knew she was not ready...didnt fancy 1 and 5...so had a nice tri-cast on 2-3-4 and they obliged at 96/1.....
she is running this friday....but she is still not at her best....thinks she is waiting for the 6th of november...to oblige...
thanks to calendar for their documentary...and nice to see someone has had their collar felt....justice for matthew is all we want
