Was wondering how Molly was..saw she 'finished lame' on 25th March which could mean anything from a niggle to a fatal injury!

she is fine...putting on a bit of weight....and in season again....resting and living the highlife.....will not be racing as much when she returns....but over the longer distance of 660......we also seem to be making progress in greece...now that they have re-opened the case.....can see molly as just a pet in the next 12 months...she has done her bit for the cause...

Glad to hear the good news about the progress in Greece. I know you wanted to raise the profile of what happened to Matt with Molly..she's probably cost you dearly financially though. Here's hoping she makes it through the next 12 months and is rewarded with her very own sofa!

she has been worth every penny....and given enjoyment to matthews family...the kids love taking her out on a sunday.....we all know the risk in the racing game...but hopefully she will retire sooner than later...we have been offered good money for her...when heard of our intentions to retire her...but she is priceless...

Eastbank...they are all priceless. Such beautiful, sensitive dogs as these should NEVER be subjected to the risk of racing. I have a feeling you will do right by Molly..let's pray she makes it.

Try and stay on your bed Molly girl...three broken hocks and a broken back suffered by dogs in one meeting at Perry Barr on Friday. Anyone thinking of taking their animal loving kids for a 'fun' night at the dogs should be aware they could witness a fatal injury or extreme suffering.

there are family fun days at the races and the greyhounds...took a party of 31 to doncaster friday....kids loved it......life is a risk......could be worse...we could live in a place like syria....they love their animals...just don't treat their citizens well....molly will be back soon...fitter and better...

did you here it screaming...were you at perry barr....kids would be too busy playing...and the noise in the crowd would drown out one dogs misfortune...dont think too many kids were mentally scarred from watching live sport...you seen some of them games they play on x-box....

lemongrass
01-05-2011, 17:46
So, the 'noise of the crowd' would be the yobs and neds that jeer when a dog falls?..good job for the kids eh? And no, I'm not familiar with Xbox games...but I bet if the games a kid was playing was real life then they would be scarred. Just cannot understand how you can be so blase about animal abuse? No wonder kids these days have no respect for anything..what about the teaching of values and caring about others and vulnerable creatures?

you will find the the racing industry is not classed as animal abuse......yobs do not attend the greyhounds...they live in squats and smash up tesco's...or throw paint at the police....
the sport loving punters are law abiding citizens....

lemongrass
01-05-2011, 18:12
I beg to differ..in ever increasing numbers the sport IS seen as abuse. Yobs don't attend tracks?..what is a 'six-packer' then? It's someone who goes out on a Saturday night to get plastered, have a bet, laugh at the dogs that fall and knows sweet FA about the dogs. If they are lucky then can do all this on a 1p meal deal..[yes, thats how desperate the industry is to get people through the turnstile]. As for 'law abiding citizens'..well, the industry itself is rotten to the core with the administration of drugs to dogs, dogs 'disappearing', etc. Anyway 'eastbank', I suspect you are not a hardcore fan of racing..as a businessman you will see you are forever dipping into your pockets with Molly. Pray she stays safe..I wonder how you'd feel if the worst happened to her? Interesting thought...

yes molly is priceless...but i can see why people get involved....some trainers have dogs running seven days a week....if you have 30 dogs and they all get 2 runs...not including prize money...that amounts to about...£1,800...thats not a bad earner for a sport that is on its knees....the vast amount of revenue comes from the bookies....so the tickets and freebies that the public enjoy are subsidised by the likes of ladbrokes and william hills....you try booking a seat in the resturaunt on a friday or saturday...

Two runs a week per dog!!! hilarious. Owners are leaving the sport in droves, at some tracks they are lucky to get one run a fortnight. Many dogs are now trainer owned [to keep up with their contract to supply BAGS dogs]. The Bookies are milking everyone involved dry. Even the Champion Trainer Mark Wallis cannot make ends meet [his own words] and he has the very best of dogs. No, the sport is dying ,thank goodness. As for the restaurant bookings ..well, speaks for itself, people are probably there for the food. Bet most of the patrons are oblivious to what is going on down on the track.

owners may be...one trainer at owlerton has twelve dogs running tuesday....thats nearly four hundred in appearance money...he also races dogs on a mon/thur/fri/sat.....if he wasn't making money he wouldn't do it...how long they been racing at owlerton...well over 100 years...long may it continue....no people go for a good night out and enjoy the dogs...
we have got another night planned in june...for the matthew cryer trophy...shifted well over 200 tickets last time...nice earner for the lads trust..

Thought Belle Vue held the first race meeting in 1926? Anyway, I'm glad you are making a bit of money for Matthews trust..nobody else in racing is! In the 1990s seven US states banned racing..there will be many more. Many tracks in Britain are struggling to hold on. Well eastbank..much as I enjoy the banter with you got to take my 3 retireds [used, abused and dumped black bin bag fillers] out for a walk. Maybe you should try taking Molly home yourself and watch her personality develope, perhaps when you realise what gentle, loving dogs they are you will not want to be responsible for one going into the traps and risking death...

molly seems to be one of the lucky ones....she wont be racing til she drops...and wont see a bin liner....in the racing game the dogs are a commodity....get the most out of them..then move on to the next batch....its all about the money....if the powers that be thought it was cruel...they would move to the virtual racing..the one they use when the weather is bad....never win when the big boys are in control....there must be thousands like your three...wanting a home....but wont get one

I'm not denying you are one of the better owners..sure you'll provide for your dog, as you should. Shame everyone isn't forced to do the same. Virtual racing is the future, people DO bet on it and thats all the bookies want. The powers that be will not ban racing outright as there would be a huge welfare issue [redundant dogs] and people without a livlihood. Better to let it die gradually. No point in arguing with you...do you read Greyhoundscene Forum? all gloom and doom on there..they know the sport is on it's last legs..and they are the ones who will know:)

maybe some tracks are run down....but owlerton provides jobs and incomes for staff, owners and trainers...also the owner has a casino on site...free admission for punters...virtual racing is ok...but you cannot beat the real thing...cannot really see it dying in my lifetime...maybe the kids coming through will swerve it but i doubt it...

:D Feel for your Mrs...think you are one of those blokes who have to have the last word! Of course people need leisure facilities, just wish it did not compromise animal welfare. Where there is money there is muck..has the case been heard yet of the Owlerton trainer whose dog tested positive for cocaine? Disgusting. I'll be following Molly's career with interest and will break open the bubbly when she retires...if she does not break her back before then..

been told that giving charlie to dogs makes them run faster...wouldn't give it to molly...she prefers horse meat...
the rewards must be great...or the naughty trainers would not do it...he will get a slap on the wrist and told to behave...just like your neighbourhood burgalar....

There are people keeping records now of dogs that 'disappear' off the card..they should all be accounted for..however, good luck to your little girl this weekend and glad to hear she has a home lined up.

greyhound racing is an industry...the dogs are a commodity, breeding on mass with only the strong surviving...
when we bought swiss roll/justice for matt...she was lucky
she has raced 100 times since 2010...
now she is packing her bags and retiring...
but greyhound racing is enjoyed by thousands every week...so it will never be stopped...
the top dogs are worth thousands...but for every one of them..there are thousands that just don't make it...and nobody wants them...sad but true

No eastbank..the only winners are the bookies. Trainers are struggling, owners are leaving the sport as the recession bites and their 'hobby' becomes unsustainable. I really despair that people like yourself seem quite happy to accept that a dog [mans best friend???] can be just a 'betting unit' and disposed of whenever it is no longer useful. God...the human race is so SICK.

its a sport...like it or not...whether i place a bet or not...just like horse racing...as for the sport dying on its feet...our trainer looks after 40 dogs and gets a good living out of it...

No, it's not a sport. Can't post a link but the IGB and European rules now admit this. As for your trainer making a good living...no he won't be, no trainers are! The only thing your trainer has going for him is that his kennels are at the track so, unlike his counterparts he has no diesel costs getting to and from meetings. Have a word with Russ..he will tell you just how much the bookies are taking the p**s out of trainers and owners...and the REAL losers are the poor dogs....

we all know the bookies are coining it in...thats why they pump their money into the industry to keep it afloat....
if it relied on the punters paying through the door it would be dead...but on the other hand...come the weekend you try booking a table in the restaurant at owlerton...
don't care what the europeans say like the sport of kings, horse racing we in the country class greyhound racing as a sport...not a pastime...
