View Full Version : Holidaying in turkey anyone?
i was wondering if anyone is having 2nd thoughts about going to turkey,i certainly am but with my departure date only 8 weeks away i can;t see thompsons letting us change destination,my missis did point out that a bomb could go off anywhere(which is true) but i'm starting to feel i shouldn't be taking my family anywhere at this moment in time.
Dont blame you kirky, I feel pretty much the same with regard to travel and my family at the minute, although we are not booked to go to turkey.. A lot can change in 8 weeks just keep your eye on the travel advice, if they change thier minds in the next few weeks you may still have the chance to cancell or change destinations
muddycoffee 28-07-2005, 08:56 If I was off to turkey, nothing would change my mind. If you could change your destination to Mallorca, chances are that would be the next target anyhow.
But seriously, the chances of getting caught in a terrorist attack is so infinitesimally small, that it is not worth considering. If the risk was too high the home office would advise against going.
Many people are worried about going to london, but have you seen the size of the place?
Tubthump 28-07-2005, 10:40 I agree wholeheartedly with muddycoffee. You can't let these incidents interfere with your life. Doing so is a victory for the terrorists. It's a cliche, but you've got more chance of getting run over on the way to the airport than you have of getting blown up in Turkey. Put it this way: you can't legislate for the random factor. If your times up, your time's up. If we let fear govern our every decision, we'd be living in concrete bunkers three miles underground scared to eat in case we catch some flesh eating virus, scared to put the power on in case we electrocute ourselves.
I'd still go, yesterday I took all the family on a day out to London - it had been booked for a few weeks and we really did agonise over whether or not to go after all that's happened. In the end we took a vote and everyone still wanted to go. We had a great day but were probably more vigilant and aware than we would previously have been.
So go and have a great time, and don't let it spoil your holiday. And as my lovely boyfriend pointed out before my trip to London yesterday "you've got more chance of being killed in a train derailment love". Loving words indeed but I suppose he was right.

basque seperatists have been bombing spanish resorts for years & everyone still goes there.@ the minute there are problems in most tourist destinations or there have been.
turkey,northern cyprus,spain,madrid,bomb threats in france.
it's not worth spoiling your holiday worrying about it.

I'm due to go to Turkey second week in September (don't know where though - a friend booked it for a girlie week)
To be honest, I did have a one second oohh errr about it, but that's all.
Hubby works in London so he has no choice he has to be there, but just as luck would have it we went to Egypt the day before the first bombs. We were back home before the bombs in Egypt so stick with me and come to Turkey - it's bound to be the safest place out - I am an exceptionally lucky person
the_rudeboy 28-07-2005, 17:15 Kirky the chances of you getting killed in a car crash are far greater than you getting killed in a terrorist attack. That fact doesn't stop you using a car does it? Go and enjoy it mate....its brill place.
Im off in couple of months. and my dad and family over in turkey now.And it is not stoppin me going just as much as it did not stop my dad.Nothing has gone off.And i say if my aunt can move over to turkey when the war was on then i can go over all becuase of a bomb scares and bombings it not stop the people of london liveing there.so why should it spoil ur holiday.get your self off and enjoy it.
fredsredhat 30-07-2005, 18:42 We're off to Turkey on thurs an it's not even crossed my mind about terrorists. the only thing I'm worried about is trying to convert 1,976,967,686 lira into pounds!!!!!
