For some inexplicable reason this 4 year old Brother HL 1230 laser printer has suddenly ceased to engage in to print mode. The printer driver is processing ok until it reaches the printer but for some reason it disengages and wont print out at all.
Just doing a basic printer test check which wouldnt print out. Disconnected parallel cable. Pressed button, switched on/off and got a page out. No indication of toner being low, having run out or anything like that. Did a successful printer test page so the printer cant be knackered. I've gone through all the suggested steps

I need urgent advice because I've got an urgent meeting at 9 am with my bank manager to make an urgent application to open a bank account for a Clubs & Societies funding application.

Please can anyone help me really urgently. Even if not possible by then, will still need help afterwards because I use this system as a communication aid because of a serious speech impairment.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry I cant help you to fix your printer, but could you not either save the relevant files to disk, or e-mail them to the place you are going and pick them up when you get there?

That's an idea. Many thanks. I'll get their email details from them at the meeting and forward them when I get back tonight. My neighbour's just been to have a look at the contraption and things it could be a software/handshaking problem. Any suggestions gratefully received. As it doesnt look like I'm going to be able to sort this out now because I've got to get ready for this meeting, I'm also going to double check the toner cartridge with the IT supplier down the road.

What do I do if, as my neighbour suspects, it is a handshaking problem? Please note that I am unlikely to be able to deal with this thread until later today, possible late this evening because I'll probably wont be coming back home much before then.

Of course if it is simply a toner issue, then I'll post to say its resolved.

Again many thanks in advance to any suggestions of how to deal with this.

Have you tried deleting the printer and re-installing with the latest driver?

The latest drivers from Brother are here:

Strix you are ace brilliant wonderful, fantastic. Just got hold of Brother Tech Support; this was so urgent that it was one of the rare occasions I speak on the phone :D discussed as above. He reckons it basically need s new toner. Crisis over. :D :D :D

alchresearch - cant say how many times I downloaded the latest drivers and got this message telling me I was uptodate.

This printer is supposed to warn when it runs out of toner. As I keep an eye out for that and it had been printing out normally it just never occurred to me that this was the problem.

Thanks also Sharper.

Anyhow I'm just ecstatic with relief that it is that simple and I feel that stupid for having troubled you all over something like this. Wendy
