Aw, condolences indeed.

He came from an era of decent deejays and when Hallam (long before the FM was added) was a decent station.

He can't have been very old, though?

RIP.

Just seen this on the Blades website - http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~1813656,00.html

He was match day MC at the Lane for a number of years.

Terrible news at a young age (only 48yrs old), it seems he had some long term illness.

RIP Dave - sincere condolances to his family.

Gosh, what a horrid shock! So young, too!

I remember him going from Radio Hallam, in Sheffield, to Chesterfield, to set the sister radio station up (Peak FM?).

I remember Dave's "Pat Sharp" style blond hairdo.

i used to work in a newsagents on abbeydale rd years ago and about 6 o clock every morning this guy would come,he was good looking funny trendy,we would have a laugh and a joke and it was dave kilner on his way home from radio hallam,he only lived up the road, but the thing is he would buy a bottle of milk and 6 packets of salt and vinegar crisps every morning, but he never put any weight on.He was a nice guy.God bless him and his family.

I worked with Dave when I was engineering at Hallam . I did a jingle for him in a yorkshire accent saying he was " reyt laf" . The jingle got pulled but Dave loved it as Sheffield people love to mock themselves.
He's not a reyt laf any more. God bless and condolences to his family and friends.

I really liked Dave Kilner. I remember years ago at Meadowhall he was giving easter eggs away in a competition. I answered the question correctly and not only did Dave give me the egg, he told me I had a good, powerful voice for radio. I never pursued it.

RIP Dave. You seemed like a really nice bloke.

I believe he did a lot for charity (In best Smashy and Nicey voice) too.

I met him at Radio Hallam when I was interviewed on the Colin Slade Rock programme. He told me how he once said a very rude word on air.

Very sad news. I worked with Dave at Peak 107 and later at Hallam/Magic. He was a good bloke with a wicked sense of humour. Sincere condolences to Shirley and the family.

RIP Dave.

Dave Kilner.A great man,of which the word legend is not enough to sum him up.

As an impressionable 7yr old kid,my dad (the ex non league football correspondent at Hallam from around 1978-late 85) used to spend time at Hallam's original home of Hartshead, and every now and again, take me along.

Dave was one of the new boys- initially a studio helper, but you could tell that given the chance,he'd be a overnight success.... How true that rung, and over the next (almost) 20yrs,Dave's warm, affable style gave him a loyal audience base, and a reputation of being a thoroughly nice bloke to work with.

A flirtation with Peak FM came and went, but Dave returned to home to lead Hallam's fundraising efforts. If there's a legacy to Dave's commitment,it will be that his work will help South Yorkshire's children for years to come.

Having read the tributes across many ex colleagues facebook pages, blogs, and radio related sites, every single message says the same...legend.

My thoughts and prayers, and those of my father,a workmate of Dave's for over 8yrs,are with Shirley, his wife, their children, and all of Dave's family, and friends.

Thanks Dave, for being part of radio history in South Yorkshire, and most importantly, part of Hallamland.

Presenter Dave Kilner dies
We're sad to report the death of well known Yorkshire radio host Dave Kilner.

The former Hallam FM, Magic AM and Peak FM presenter passed away today aged 48, after a short illness. He joined Radio Hallam on a Youth Training Scheme in 1979 and went on to host the drivetime show before moving to the progamme on which he made his name, the mid-morning show.

In 1996 he left to help launch Peak FM but returned to the (then) Emap station in 2001 to work on the station's charity, Help a Hallam Child raising millions of pounds.

Dave was also the match day announcer at Sheffield United Football Club for three decades. The club has paid tribute to his life and career this afternoon on its website.

Hallam FM's Twitter update currently reads: "A Hallam FM and Sheffield legend is gone but never forgotten. Our thoughts are with Dave Kilner's wife Shirley and family. R.I.P Dave x"

Hallam FM is due to release a statement tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know how he died?

I remember him from when I was a kid. Used to have to be in bed for 9pm and was allowed to listen to the radio for half an hour and listened to his phone in show.

I used to be an avid Hallam listener as a child and Dave was the voice of radio for me. At college I went to interview a few DJs and worked at Hallam for a couple of weeks as work experience. He seemed a really nice, genuine bloke, quite prepared to poke a bit of fun at himself and his local deejay image (unlike some!) and I am genuinely sad to hear this news. Sincere condolences to his family especially his wife and 2 daughters.

And even better in the 70's!
I remember his enthusiasm on 'Money Mountain' when he joined Radio Hallam in 1979.
There used to be some fabulous presenters on that station and it's another one that's now gone on to the "airwaves of heaven" with Roger Moffat; Ray Stuart; Bruce Wyndham and Jim Greensmith...

In the Star tonight, former Hallam dj Dave Kilner has died at the age of 48. Think Hallam today is a load of cr.p, and do not listern anymore, but in its orginal guise Dave Kilner was a good presenter and always enjoyed his programmes.
He was the baby compered to people like Roger Moffat and Keith Skues but knew how to capture listerners, not like todays presenters.
RIP Dave.

those were the days ,when it was a decent station ,instead of all this rubbish played now . wonder if roger and keith are still presenting ,or still alive . they both must be in their 70`s .

The voices of Dave Kilner and Howard Pressman made Hallam FM great and you can still remember their voices now, can you say that about any of today's presenters???? A truly sad loss, my condolences to Dave's family.
