View Full Version : Escaped bird of prey in Crookes?

My daughter reported seeing a large bird of prey flying around Crookes this morning, with jesses still attached. She said it looked bigger than a buzzard, with long primaries extending from the wing tips like fingers. I was incredulous until I read the threads on here about previous sightings, particularly the (now recaptured) Harris Hawk that terrorised Rivelin and Bannerdale!

Has anyone else seen this bird? I would love to know what it is.

That sounds interesting. Let's hope it manages to catch and eat a few magpies!

Lets hope the magpies don't get the better of it..... they can be really nasty. Has anyone reported the sighting?

Good Point. As I didn't see the beast myself, I can't provide much of a description but I shall ask my daughter to write something down after school. To whom is is best reported? Do you have the appropriate contact details?

An Owl escaped from Graves park on Sunday, I watched them trying to catch it while walking the dog. Could be the same one.

Not this again! Gawd does no-one read the forum posts when they type in their title and the past ones come up??

Glad to see that you edited your post! The Bannerdale Hawk was recaptured but I have been informed that another one was spotted in Hillsborough in early Sept. There is a thread on here but it did not come up when I typed in the original post:

The Bannerdale hawk capture is reported here:
