View Full Version : Advertising to buy houses in Sheffield
Hi all,
Im new to the forum so first of all i'd like to say hello to everyone :D . Great forum with a lot of helpful advice. I buy property for a living and I was wondering where you all think is the best place to advertise my services. Basically I buy property off people who need to sell quickly - the sale is quick and hassle free but I do buy at discount. I have been thinking of advertising in the Star, on a monday and the sheffield property guid on a Friday.
Do you think these are good places to advertise. Its quite expensive to run and I want to make sure I am using the most cost effective method. Incidentally, I am already in the yellow pages. Do many people actually read the Gazette?
Thanks in advance for your comments
Does anyone have any advice on this topic
pete_jim 01-08-2005, 12:31 I personally think that people see this 'service' you offer as profiting from other's misfortunes and as such they really aren't interested on where you advertise. I'm often wrong though.
Pete,
A response at last, not exactly what Im looking for but a response nonetheless. What I do is find solutions for people who find themselves in difficult circumstances. I do not try to profit from peoples misfortunes but have built a business around meeting peoples needs. For example, I recently bought a house off a gentleman that was getting divorced. His wife wanted half the money from the house and he needed to sell quick. So he contacted me. I subsequently found out that he really wanted to stay in the house with his children as this was his home. The house was worth 135k but I offered him 102k for his house and gave him the option to rent it for the next two years, with his rent paid for the next six months. I explained exactly how much his house was worth and why I could offer 102k. He was delighted with this solution, whereby he did not have to leave his home and could keep his kids in the same school etc. I was also happy as I had got a good deal on the house and was able to stop this guy effectively get booted out of his own home. There is no way I can operate a business like this if I did not have strict profit margins as I would go bust pretty quickly in a stalling market. Therefore, it is a business that fills a gap in the market and I do not see it as unethical. I always do my best to help people out of difficult circumstances. I do not take huge profits from people who have no other choice. I look for the win:win solutions, whereby both parties will feel happy with the outcome.
This is my take on it and I can understand if some disagree. However, I operate ethically and I am a man of morals. If somebody wants to answer my post that would be great, If not life goes on.

pete_jim 02-08-2005, 08:45 Hi Jammy
I didn't mean to imply you were unethical in your business dealings, I know the kind of service you provide but if you re-read your initial post you might see what I meant in my reply.
I have not been on this forum long at all but doubt if the topic will elicit many responses. Meadowhall vs Town, Posh area vs Poor area, yes but your's is a fairly specialised service.
In answer to your original post, no one that I know reads the Gazette, Mondays Star I think is similar, the property guide on Friday might be the best choice for a weekly ad though is that where your target market would look to raise funds? A monthly ad in a regional magazine such as Active8, or Grapevine with a more informed editorial look to it might be better, then you can explain your service more fully.
We are in business too and people sometimes have a rant about the price of things but we take it on the chin, don't feel that you have to justify what you do.
Rgds
Thanks Pete for some helpful tips. If I was to advertise in the Star at all what day would be best. will check out those magazines
Hi Jammy I wouldn't use any local magazines/newspapers they are very expensive, you can advertise with us if you want to, we are Sheffield's leading private house sale company and get thousands of visitors each week,or try puting flyers through the doors of properties that are on the market for a long time, services like yours are going to become very popular as the market is slow and chains are broken so often, many people are going to be looking for another way, I would take any negative comments you recieve on this forum with a pinch of salt, for some reason there are plently of unhappy property related issues, but not many want to do anything about it?
If you need help with flyers I can also do that for you.
Feel free to check us out at www.2roost.com .
Good luck, it is a needed service!
