Hi,

I have a small garden area in the shape of a quarter-circle and total area is about 12m sq. (about 4m radius)

currently there are wild geraniums and roses and lots of weeds but I'd like something very easy to maintain and low down (no higher that about 50cm)

It is in a sunny spot and resonably sheltered

I'm not keen on wood-chip or bare earth

Does anyone have any ideas what I could put in there?

Thanks

You could have a shaped patio area and plant a mix of evergreen (box or lavender edging or something like that) and perennial flower border and loads of different variety of bulbs.

I agree with the bulbs and perennials. It's a good time to plant them just now. Bulbs for each of the seasons too, not just your daffodils and tulips.

I'd go for some hebe's too. Golden Globe is a nice one, but you can get some lovely varieties, with some great flowers to attract wildlife. Variagated ones too, and nice and hardy to keep the garden going through the winter.

Other small shrubs to try:
Buxus Box - perhaps trimed into a cube, pyramid or sphere for good interest. Perhaps even grown as a standard (lollipop) for a little height
Euonymus - some lovely variations, my personal fave is grey/green and white E. Fortunei Emerald Gaiety
Don't forget flowers though. You can have a clematis variety in flower each season, and they'll be happy growing up a support to cover a fence/wall up an obelisk or sprawling care-free through your other plants to keep them lower down.

Look out for dwarf varieties of your favourite plants, and keep an eye out for alpines to fill in any spaces that might be left. Aubretia, or dianthus can make a pretty ground cover
