Now maybe when Adam Smith (who first used the phrase) and then Napoleon used the words it was untrue. (I thought Hitler used it too during WW2?)
We had a manufacturing industry back then. We made things that were the envy of the world. Steel and coal were the backbone of England and our heavy industry were the heart and lungs.
Today? Well you tell me? What the hell happened and why? Can we ever put the "Great" back into Britain?

Discuss!
