View Full Version : On Street Parking - Outside Our House(s)
currently living in a terraced house with on street parking (usually right outside the window) but on weekends its difficult to park within 100 yards of our house due to people using our free space.
is there anything i can do to prevent this, im paying for the house and surely the right to park outside 'the house'... not some jumped up shopper in their big 4x4....
sheff_minx 27-07-2005, 14:52 Oh for crying out loud! Quit moaning and walk the 100yds - there's nothing you can do and you need the exercise anyway!!

Fraid not - your house ends at the walls. Unless the road is marked for residents only (where you will have to pay for a permit) then you have no more right to park in front of your house than any other road user.
You do not own the road outside your house. If you take steps to claim the space when you go out (eg putting cones out) there is absolutely nothing you can do if someone moves them
we'll see about this. ill defend my parking space specially if its been used by some mother truckin' 4x4.

Are you suggesting that you will commit criminal damage on some-ones property who is parking perfectly legally on a public road?
:o

damn straight, lol...
if theres nowt i can do thats fine, i just thought about putting a sign up. would never do any damage to anything parked there as it would be pretty obvious whodunnit.
a) theyd see my car parked in the same space repeatedly
b) theyd have a good guess as its [---------] (this far) from my front door
sheff_minx 27-07-2005, 15:02 No he's not. I'll lock him in the cellar if I have to. He's just being stupid. I'll admit it is slightly annoying but its mainly just laziness on both our parts that we get irritated!
muddycoffee 27-07-2005, 15:04 Yeah it's terrible up hear sometimes, I get home first and pinch Ms Behavin's space in front of her house.
sheff_minx 27-07-2005, 15:07 You're a brave man! I personally wouldn't mess with her!! Lol. Vini on the other hand, he may be 6ftSomething but he's a pussycat really, thus people have no problems/fears in stealing his space!

You know when I see someone's put up their own "No Parking" sign, I park there on purpose. Even if I don't need to park.
Why do people think they have any authority over the public highway?

I did that once, then found that the owner of the house was elderly and couldn't walk far and relied on their car to get around...
PIF_Tails 30-07-2005, 22:44 I do think that elderly, disabled people and on call emergency staff should have their own allocated bays/parking space outside their house.
However everyone else should get walking. When I lived in Leeds (crowded area of flats/bedsit so far too many cars for the area) I was lucky if I could find parking within a 5 minute walk of my home, I would of been so happy to find a spot a meer 100 yards from my front door !!!!
we all want to treat it as 'our' territory, but suddenly when we need to park and the only spot is outside someones else, then it's a different story.
Luckily I have a drive, although tonight i can't park in front of it as a white van is overhanging by a good foot or two.
Doubt I could actually get in it either, although i need to scrap the old nova first anyway.
I can sympathise with you there cyclone, street force have been today to paint the Keep Clear marking outside our drive, but as usuall theres a car hanging about a foot and a half over the drive again. hope they manage to do it anyway, just to see the drivers face when he comes back to see the fresh markings under his inconsideratly parked car..
this is linked somewhat to the parking. if u have family or freinds who are disbled they can pay a fee(used to be £75) to have a disabled bay painted outside their home.this then becomes there parking space by right.
