can anyone explain why over the last few months the traffic wardens in sheffield city centre are going round in gangs of four to six to book a car and put a ticket on it.

Safety in numbers I'd imagine. I must admit that I enjoy seeing a car get a ticket, especially when it's parked in the bus lane and holding the traffic up. :hihi:

Probably personal safety.

Incidentally where are the traffic wardens at 6pm when illegally parked cars in the bus lane on Charter Row,Abbeydale Road and Sheaf Street are causing problems?

We need some up in woodseats to ticket the arrogant sods who are always leaving their cars on the bus stop, where it is clearly marked before going into Blockbuster.

Is it only me who welcomes the Wardens in the City Centre? i have no problem with them at all enforcing oparking rules. I only wish they'd get out into other areas such as the shops at Fir Vale/Page Hall

I actually thought about volunteering to do this - I'd do all the arseholes who park on the pavement on Herries Road on matchday and all the muppets who think they are above the law...

The reason they move round in groups is that , imagine a motorist dashing like mad to his vehicle ; he only has 30 seconds left before the meter runs out.
Now , one warden could trip him up , one could slap the penalty notice on his car and another would be the witness who said the man fell on some orange peel.
It's all good stuff and co-ordinated from an office , "somewhere in England ".

Well I wish they would get themselves down to Retford Road up past Asda. There are parking restrictions to ease the flow of traffic at peak times morning and afternoon. Without fail, I see between 12 and 15 cars parked reducing the two lanes to one lane every day and i've never seen anyone get a ticket.

Surely if Sheffield council want to ease the flow of traffic they should be enforcing measures already in place rather than looking at how they can throw good money after bad on various schemes :loopy:

Agree with you there youwhatref.

They're on the double yellows, the pavement and the left hand lane approaching the Fir Vale lights onto Barnsley Rd. It's bad round there at the best of times, but horrendous at rush hour and when the take-aways are busy.

One warden in that area would make enough revenue to pay for another 10 wardens.

Aren't they Council employees now ?

It's probably a 9 to 5 job ;)

It's probably a 9 to 5 job ;) Which means that wardens work when it is legal to park on bus lanes ? LOL, Sheffield City Council really does it best ;)

No I welcome them too!

We often get people parking blocking our yard into our house, leaving us blocked in or blocked out and without parking permits we have to put money into the meters just to make sure we don't get ticketed. It's *very* frustrating.

Is there a collective noun for traffic wardens? Personally I favour an 'inadequacy', but I'm sure someone out there can do better.

In explanation, this is based on the only traffic warden I know, who is indeed a somewhat skulking, sloping-chinned character, who actually derives pleasure from nabbing people a few minutes over their slot time. But obviously a sample of one is hardly empirical...

I have to say i have seen them loads of times along City Road and Mansfield road and on South road during the urban clearway times, usually there are two of them doing both sides of the street. It really cheers me up seeing the selfish morans getting a ticket.

Regarding Bus stops i think Sheffield should follow Londons and Nottinghams lead at paint the tarmac red at bus stops as people dont seam to understand the words BUS STOP or the meaning of a thick yellow line

Nothing to be ashamed about Kirky, - the job has to be done and most motorists are happy to see those who selfiishly flout traffic regulations get penalised. As long as they excersize a little leniency with people who overstay their 'pay and display' by a few minutes they'll have my support.

can someone point a warden in the direction of London road to stop the selfsih b*ggers who think it's ok to stop on double yellows outside a takeaway at the traffic lights at the junction with Cemetary Road. I got stuck behind one the other day when he pulled up to the line at the lights, I pulled up behind him signalling to go left, lights changed to green, he got out of his car and went for a kebab!

time to invest in a few trolley jacks. Jack them up, pull them out of the way, leave them in the middle of the road.
