we've rented some good films recently including Waltz With Bashir, London to Brighton, Pan's Labyrinth, Breaking and Entering and The Great Gatsby. they're not what you'd call cheerful tho

anyone recommend some good films - eg not with Jennifer Aniston in them - but that are a bit more cheery?

I agree Stardust is a brilliant film very magical indeed. Like the Peter Pan of this era. Woop woop...

There's no better feeling than waking up on a day when the sun is shining, the birds are singing and you feel fantastic in every way, then settling down to watch Requiem for a Dream. :hihi:

Sorry, my poor attempt at humour. Every one of the films I listed is pretty dark...

Here's a banana to lighten the mood:

I think Requiem for a Dream is uplifting. I watch it and I think at least I'm not a heroin addict with one arm and I don't need shock treatment. Life is good.

If you're after an uplifting film, I recommend "Anvil! The Story Of Anvil"

It's a documentary about a heavy metal band that's been around for decades that most people have never heard of (because, frankly, they aren't very good) but the guys love what they do and work hard at it. They're not superstars, or geniuses, but the film makes you think about what defines "success" and happiness. It's good for laughs, because of the Spinal Tap world, but there's a lot more to it.
