Has anyone else gone through the process of comparing the different CFT Providers (http://www.childtrustfund.gov.uk/ListOfProviders/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4001477&chk=2FRm3N) to see if any are significantly better?

Does anyone think there there is a "best" choice or are they all very similar (as it seems to me)?

Has anyone found a simple website for comparison of them all?
I've found a few but cannot get one that includes ALL providers.

Has anyone seen any information on comparison of performance as opposed to forecast (or is it too soon to tell)?

Not much response to this one so far but I too would be interested to know if anyone has any answers or opinions to the questions raised above.

(the link isn't very helpful in terms of listing providers, but maybe it's a temporary glitch.)

That link is over a year old now and the site has been updated.

The list of providers is now much larger and is HERE (http://www.childtrustfund.gov.uk/templates/Page____1243.aspx).

In the end we opted for a "shares" account with one of the building societies.
There really was not much to choose between any of them.

Whilst there is an element of risk in a "shares" account, they would be the best opportunity of turning this into something worthwhile.
Putting the voucher into a "savings only" account would earn peanuts, which we could probably afford to lose.

Did you select the individual shares, or is there a fund you contribute to?

They are just managed funds. The website behind that last link explains how the CTF's have to operate.

I did the share account too with the share centre (which I seem to remember at the time was one of the providers highly recommended by the FT). However, I haven't had the guts yet to do anything with the investment so it is just sitting there in one of their closed safe share accounts.

On a separate note - does anyone know if the accounts transferable? I.e. if I wanted to move the account to another provider can this be done?

Yes. You can.

They cannot charge for a transfer ..... but you may not get a full return on a 'shares' account if the timing is bad. Sometimes management charges (although controlled) may exceed growth during a lean period.
