I'm going to have a go at building a website and I know very little about it. i understand somebits of html and I'm going to be using dreamweaver mx.
I know nothing about FTP and hosting and getting a web name. Can anybody help with some info.
thanks
I would start by taking a look at what (if any) webspace your isp is offering. If its traditional ftp webspace (which most are likely to be) then you can at least get started learning about webpage basics and using the dreamweaver tool. Though I would suggest you use notepad and a traditional ftp tool first to get a grounding on the basics before diving in with dreamweaver.
By dipping your toe in and using your isp's webspace you should get a better idea of what you are actually paying for when shopping around for independent webspace - are you going to need the extra features they offer and is it worth it.
A domain name should be viewed as a separate thing. Its linked in that you may choose to get dedicated webspace by the same company that you rent the domain name off, but it doesnt have to be that way.
Have you settled on a host/domain name provider?

ive used my isps free webspace to host my own private website
i sat in front of dreamweaver till id worked out how to use it and created my very first website :)
i use wsftp to upload my files to my webspace.....pretty straight forward and easy......i learnt myself how to do that too :P
for a free domain name try http://www.dot.tk/
you get the .tk after your website name you want then
ie:- i had a mc pitman site i made and the url included my name cos of the account i created on the webspace provider, so i used dot tk and ended up with the url www.mcpitman.tk ......more concise and easier to remember :)
its down by the way before you try accessing it :( well the files are up and functional but for some reason its not working, but should be........gonna find some more free webspace cos 50free.nets ****e
think you'll find most free webspace is *rse ;) you get wot you pay for!
I would recommend www.cwshosting.co.uk . There are some cheaper options about but the support that Andy gives you is second to none (which was breath of fresh air after one and one!!). All their packages come with fantastico installed which means you can put a good cms system together (like Mambo - check www.alliancemidweek.org.uk) very easily allowing you to work more with design that html.

Are you looking for a particular plan or domain? What website are you looking for?
I sell websites on ebay (all that come with hosting which I pay for unlimited reseller access), one of the sites hosted on there is the site in my signature.
Contact me if your interested in setting something up
