do you think its right for sainsburys to be storing their milk outside in the loading bay because apparently they havent got any room in their warehouse fridges!

I wouldn't say it was right but as far as keeping them chilled goes, it is probably colder outside at the minute than it will be inside their chillers.

If you've got any concerns report it to the Environmental Health.

I know the sainsbury's central storeroom is tiny (compared to what size storeroom a normal supermarket has)

As long as no-one nicks the milk, i'm happy with that.

Though milk ice cubes are crap.

Its only the same as bars and clubs storing bottled beer outside.

A bit of bacteria - is good for you

Why do we drink from bottles?

I ran a bar hundreds of years ago

And we had mice, sometimes, it couldnt be helped

and they always slurped round the tops of the bottles in the cellar, looking for that sugary taste perhaps, I dont know why.

So I had to clean the bottles down with a damp cloth before putting them on the cold shelf upstairs

And even then I wasnt happy with the hygiene really

Catch ME ever drinking from a bottle

..........hugs to all those alcopops drinkers out there

I expect that it's got something to do with it been near xmas and the amount of stock levels why this could be getting stored outdoors. It seems odd though that they could not rent a container unit to store such items in.

DB where does the milkman (remember him) leave the milk bottles when he delivers them to our homes? Why, outside on the doorstep of course.

Not having a milkman it wouldn't matter. And does that make it any more hygeinic then Mo?

I'd say not.

And on that subject, my grandad still has his milk delivered and the milkdude sticks his in the box (which gramps built) which is screwed to the wall at waist hight with a lid on.... so his is safer!:P

Good old Gramps

Just saying that it's gone on for years and as far as I know we're not falling down like flies with nasty diseases caught from milk left on the doorstep

:)

But diseases change and get worse.
Either way, it aint a nice thought.... and shops like this are more likely to have rats venturing up to the milk. And I'd hazard a guess that's not all too common on your doorstep.

You think the milk at sainsbury's is bad? You wanna take a look at the sugar from Morrisons.. I've had 2 seperate bags that had little 'flea-like' insects in it, tiny things but loads of them... Added a bit of spice to my cuppa ;o)

Hi,

I used to work for Sainsburys, although I don't work there any more so I can't comment on what's currently happening.

In the past at Christmas, we would have a marquee erected in the service yard. This was used for storage of certain non-perishable goods, which couldn't fit in the warehouse due to the amount of stock being held for Christmas. Milk wouldn't be stored outside, it would go into a chiller. It may, however, be outside for a short while whilst things are unloaded and taken into the warehouse. Maybe this is what the original poster saw?

I'd be interested to know which branch of Sainsburys it was - PM me if you'd prefer.

Yea Mo, but your doorstep doesnt have articulated lorries, food waste compacters and skips and loads of other opportunities for cross contamination. It's not there for long either, and I think that you wil find that Sainsbury's have to follow the Food and Hygiene Regulations - your doorstep won't be taken to court. :D

That's why you shouldn't drink beer out of bottles. They're stored in warehouses, rats pee on them, and you can get Viles Disease from rats urine. Or thats what an Aussie friend told me anyway.
But then everything in Australia wants to kill you.

you can also get heart attacks from milk products

The point is that the "use by" date on supermarket fresh milk is conditional upon it being kept refrigerated.

Once allowed above a certain teperature the "use by" date is meaningless and the milk is supposed to be dumped.

Perhaps what was seen was a load of milk waiting to be picked up after a chiller room had failed ?

GazB- could it be weevils in your sugar?
I've heard of people seiving the flour to remove them, but not eating them - yuk :(

I chuck the flour if it gets weevils and disinfect cupbds.
