Has anyone else been watching Nigel Slater's new series on Wednesday evenings?

I like his food, it's simple, rustic and packed with flavour.

After this weeks episode I decided to do his smokey tomato pasta sauce and it was the most fantastic yet simple recipe.

Here is a link (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/smokytomatosauceforp_92376.shtml)for anyone else who'd like to cook it.

I managed to get some really ripe tomatoes for half price from Sharps because a lot of people turn their noses up at very ripe toms but they were just perfect for cooking with. :)

I might try it. Did you add red wine vinegar or sugar? I suppose a dish like this is as much dependent on the quality of the pasta as much as the sauce.

I quite like Nigel Slater's food, though the man himself I find a little creepy.

I added about half a teaspoon of red wine vinegar but it all depends on the sweetness of the tomatoes.

I saw this and loved how simple it was, but thought, how can that possibly not just taste like mushed tomatoes & pasta, but also hoping it would be good. Will try it today I think!

The roasted thyme, the olive oil, the basil, the vinegar and the smokiness of the grilled tomato skins all give it lovely flavours.

I saw this and quite fancied it too, but then Nigel Slater has such a way of describing food he can make me (vegetarian) want to roast half a sheep.....I will give the smoky tomato sauce a whirl though cos it looked lovely
