I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A COMPUTER FROM THEM. WHAT HAPPENS ABOUT MANUFACTORERS WARRANTY? RazorSHarp 27-07-2005, 07:14 There is nothing on the "register" which usually shows of the movers and shakers in the IT market, although if they have gone broke, someone should pick up the warranty and you may find that the warranty number you have will either be answered or directed to the correct people. Saying that Tiny never were any good with warranty repairs any how. Ousetunes 27-07-2005, 07:14 Tiny/Time Computers are on the cusp of going bust (source: BBC teletext service, 27th July). My wife recently bought a computer from Tiny and I'd be very surprised if the warranty that comes with it is now worth more than the paper it was written on. IOW - It ain't looking good. I bought a Tiny PC in 2001 and was told a couple of years later they had been taken over by a company called Time. My warranty kept going, but never needed to contact them, I'm sure if it's true they will contact you. I didn't renewed my warranty when it ran out this year, as was undecided whether to buy a new one. to be quite honest it's been a brilliant PC. never had a problem. If that is the case look at this link http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2005/07/26/time_shops_shut/ metalman 27-07-2005, 07:49 I though Time and Tiny had gone bust and changed their name several times already, and on that basis I've never considered buying anything off them! Vini 27-07-2005, 08:24 reported yesterday on theINQ linky (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24916) Cyclone 27-07-2005, 08:34 unless the warranty scheme is insured (unlikely given the way tiny and time operate) then all warranties will be null and void if the company is wound up. If you purchased the pc through a credit card or other credit facility, then the credit provider will be responsible for warranty period. ToryCynic 27-07-2005, 10:23 Bunch of amateurs - really shockingly dire toot they produced. Throw them in the fire with Packard Bell and old Comapaq machines. Alex - :) DanSumption 27-07-2005, 10:28 Yeah, Time and in particular Tiny have always been fairly dodgy. In 1992 I had one of the earliest Tiny PCs, back in the days when my friend's company were their only UK sales reps, selling out of a garage in Guildford! It was actually an OK PC, but nothing special and they got worse as they went on - my friend soon stopped selling them as he was getting too many complaints. It's a shame for those who have Time/Tiny PCs, but other than that good riddance to bad rubbish. Alex - :) To say a large portion of UK business is still run on Compaq machines/servers I would be careful whom you may offend with that statement, especially as they are now just rebadged as HP !!! 999tigger 27-07-2005, 15:02 Time took Tiny over. They are now bust.On another forum someone just bought a computer from them was awaiting delivery and didnt use his CC. What a div.Sickener. vidster 27-07-2005, 15:45 Didn't they own 'The Computer Shop' chain as well? alchresearch 27-07-2005, 21:36 I worked for Time HQ in Burnley in 2000. It was a shocking place and saw and heard a lot of bad things which I cannot sadly prove. bobsyouruncle 27-07-2005, 23:10 according to tonights news, they were losing 2 million pound a month, so all shops have closed and they've gone t*** up!! how can you loose 2 mill a month..........:suspect: admin errors or embezzlement or just one big f*** up..............? DanSumption 27-07-2005, 23:38 Originally posted by jonluvsnique how can you loose 2 mill a month..........:suspect: Give me 2 mill and I'll show you. :D Abdul 28-07-2005, 06:37 Time computers going out of business... What will happen to all those IT graduates from Preston University? RazorSHarp 28-07-2005, 07:14 Tiny computers problem was their inability to cope with customer compliants, I heard stories of plasma screens turning up at customers with huge cracks and faults and Tiny just let them sit their for months and refused to collect / repair them. In my experience DELL are similar, they are very good at selling a product but the after sales service is very poor. alchresearch 28-07-2005, 13:48 When I worked there we got a lot of returns from where the machine wasn't assembled properly - power cable from PSU not conencted to motherboard or to drives. oenbl7100 28-07-2005, 18:14 This company, including Tiny.com and Time computers, went bankrupt on monday 25/07/05, owing thousands of people computers and plasma screens. But don't blame the employee's, as over 1500 ex-workers are now without a job and facing financial ruin becuase of the descision to not pay them the wages owed!! If anyone out there knows any way of getting them to pay what they owe, thousands of people will be gratefull to you. And for anyone needing to know about orders and refunds etc, email enquiries-time@gtuk.com <enquiries-time@gtuk.com> or call 0870 830 3288. wendygs 29-07-2005, 09:13 I think the Insolvency Department www.insolvency.gov.uk amy probably now involved. It doesnt really matter though because it would appear that the Redundancy Fund may be able to pay claims for unpaid wages, holiday pay and wages in lieu of notice, up to certain prescribed limits, and redundancy claims. The Official Receiver can provide copies of the claim forms and an explanatory booklet. The Redundancy Payments Directorate is responsible for processing and agreeing the claims. See link http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/ourservices/rp/aboutrp.htm for full information. It's certainly a better situation than it used to be for employees of insolvent companies; creditors used to get first call after tax, NI and creditors. The insolvent company's workforce were at the end of the line and rarely recovered anything. Good job that's changed because it's not much fun losing a job like that and hope this little is of some help. Cyclone 29-07-2005, 10:05 How much money can I get? Redundancy pay - The amount of your redundancy payment is your weekly pay (but only up to a limit imposed by law - currently £280 a week) multiplied by a number of 'qualifying weeks'. Annex 2 is a ready reckoner for calculating your number of qualifying weeks. Unpaid wages - The number of weeks (or part weeks) for which you were not paid (up to a maximum of 8) is multiplied by your weekly wage up to the maximum of £280 a week. We have to take income tax and national insurance from this amount. Outstanding Holiday Pay - You can be paid outstanding holiday pay up to a maximum of 6 weeks. Holiday pay includes holidays taken and not paid, or holidays you have become entitled to but have not taken, during the 12 month period before your employer became insolvent. Compensation for not receiving notice that you were due - You are entitled to one weeks notice after one month's service with your employer, two weeks after two years and then one week for every complete year up to a maximum of 12 weeks. Your compensation is the number 2 Example: You are made redundant at the age of 43, having worked for your company for 14 years. Your pay at this time is £300 a week. The ready reckoner shows a person of your age and length of service as having 15 "qualifying weeks". Your redundancy payment is 15 x £280 which is £4,200. We do not take any tax from this amount. Example: When you are made redundant you are owed 10 weeks wages and your pay is £300 a week. We can pay you 8 weeks (the maximum period allowed) x £280 (the maximum weekly limit) which is £2,240. Remember, we have to take income tax and national insurance from this amount. Example: If when your employement ended you had not taken all of your holidays you can be paid the balance you became entitled to when your job ended. For example, your leave year was 1 January to 31 December and you were entitled to 30 days holiday in the leave year. Your employment ended on 30 June halfway through the leave year; therefore you were entitled to 15 days holiday. If you had not taken any holidays we can pay you 15 days. If you had taken 5 days we can pay you the 10 days outstanding. Remember that the payment is restricted to, either the amount you are owed, or the limit of £280 per week, whichever is lower. Because it is pay, income tax and national insurance are deducted. of weeks notice you were entitled to but did not receive, multiplied by your weekly wage, up to the maximum of £280 a week. We have to take the equivalent of income tax and state benefits from this amount. If you get another job during all or part of this notice period, we also have to deduct any wages you earn. If you do not get another job, you should claim any state benefits you are entitled to. We have to deduct any state benefits you are entitled to even if you have not claimed that benefit. mazz 12-01-2006, 18:57 Just thought i'd mention that Total care has taken over....maybe they could help any1 that bought from tiny.
