Aye - it's a pretty good scoop for Five. It begins tonight on US Tv, so they will only be a matter of just under a week behind the US (on the negative side this means that the UK broadcast will suffer the season breaks around the 6th and 10th episodes as is the norm on US TV).

The series is based on a book, wherein everyone on the planet blacks out for a few minutes and see visions of their future (in the book it is 21 years if my memory serves me right).

For the TV series they have taken the clever route of making the visions 6 months in the future, which means that by the end of the first season the events forseen will have come to pass/been avoided. This (cleverly) means that if it gets cancelled (as too many shows do these days) it will still be a whole story by the end of it. if it doesn't, the writers have quite a few ideas where to go after season one.

I'm definitely going to be watching this one - been waiting for it since it was announced.

I'm hoping this one does well... I've invested a fortune in it on HSX.com. ;-)

The marketing for it has been massive, so I expect it to be one of the few winners among the new series, but you really never know... it could be crap.

I'll be watching it, though, for sure. Although, I'll be cheating and watching it on American time.

I won't ask how :) (and let it not be said that I watched the latest Heroes episode yesterday either hehe)

It is always a gamble each year as to which shows get cancelled and which stay. I tend to find that the shows I really like get canned early (My Own Worst Enemy was one of these last year), whilst the dross (Fringe) sticks around. Saying that, I was stunned that Dollhouse got a second series - a good show with potential, but the viewing figures were dreadful. Got to give credit to Fox Tv for giving it a second chance to win people over.

I justify my perhaps questionable access to American TV through my being an American living abroad - it's my right as an American citizen to be able to keep up with my TV shows! I'm sure that's in the U.S. Constitution somewhere...

Funny, I am also one of the seemingly few who was really enjoying My Own Worst Enemy. I count it among those series that were saddled with a lousy timeslot, and not given a real chance at gaining fans.

I also happen to think Fringe - which was hyped like crazy (coincidence? I think not) - is blah.

Part of the reason I haven't started with Dollhouse is because it's Fox, and I was just sure it would go the way of Firefly (still very bitter about that one!), Arrested Development, The Tick, Futurama, and well... pretty much every Fox show I get into. Blast you, Fox! I can't win!

Oh, and in case you didn't know, Christian Slater is back in another new series - The Forgotten. Sounds like a rehash of Cold Case, to me. It's being touted as his "comeback" - as if My Own Worst Enemy never existed.

I like you...you think like me :)

I gave Fringe 7 agonising episodes to woo me over before giving it up as badly acted, sub-standard X-Files drivel (heck, it made season 5 onwards of X-Files look good in comparison). Own Worst Enemy was a great show, and Slater was perfectly placed in the role. His shift between personalities was excellently done, and the show kept you on tetherhooks throughout.

Arrested Development...man, that show was genius! Here's keeping fingers crossed for the alleged movie that is planned for next year!

The Tick was genius - had me in stitches. Futurama returned for those DVDs but lacked something. however, it has been green-lit for a proper new series...so YAY!

Fox seem to be operating differently these days. Perhaps the years of backlash from Firefly fans etc made them sit up and pay attention to the reruns and DVD releases a bit more. Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles was given a second season by them too, which came as a pleasant surpirse. I have a lot more respect for them these days (although still anticipate Dollhouse being canned at the end of season 2...but at least Joss had his second chance.)

Yeah, saw the ad for that. Will check it out just because it is Slater. Hope it isn't as schmaltzy as Cold Case is :/

Another show I anticipate is "V". I loved the mini-series (1983...man that was ages ago), and still think it stands up well today. When I saw the extended trailer for the new version I was won over straight away. Faithful enough, but more relevant to today's issues....and a great cast too.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog!

Actually, I kind of agree. The Whedons' works, for the most part, do feel very "samey" at times. The only things I've truly enjoyed were Firefly and Dr. Horrible.

It appears we do think alike... I was also thinking Fox is probably a bit more wary because of the Firefly (and T:SCC) backlash, too, especially knowing they have a shared audience with Dollhouse. Geeks and nerds can be very scary, I'm sure. ;-)

I'm right with you on the "sub-standard X-Files" description of Fringe, as well. Spot on.

badass young hot female character... check
every single character doing the same inane backtalk all the time and all being exactly the same... check
fake pseudo sci-fi world...
lesbians or at least sexual tension between female characters... check

it's like a 13 year old boys fantasy!

infact it is a 13 year old boy's fantasy, Joss Whedon is bassically a 13 year old boy trapped in a man's body, I don't understand how he gets away with what he does!

Easy: his audience is made up primarily of other 13 year old boys trapped in men's bodies, and 13 year old boys trapped in womens' bodies. ;)

I watched it with my family in America, and we really enjoyed it. I'll be watching when it airs over here, for sure.

I'm right with you on the "sub-standard X-Files" description of Fringe, as well. Spot on.

It does come across as that, especially early on in the first season, but once the overarching plot came in towards the end it became quite good. It doesn't take itself quite so seriously as the X-Files did and hopefully the plot is actually going somewhere.

I can definitely see how and why they're selling it as a Lost replacement; it's definitely got a lot of the same elements and appeal.

Anyone else notice the "RedPanda" logo show up several times in the background? My husband didn't see them.

nope didn't see any redpanda logo. Is it relating to lost? On another forum someone mentioned there was an oceanic poster or something shown as well.

I wasn't sure i was gonna like it at first especially as the start was VERY similar to the start of Lost. I then really got into it and am looking forward to next weeks episode.

I really enjoyed it, i thought the CCTV bit at the end was agood idea and did leaveit on a knifedge.

One thing though i wish five would copy sky 1 and show a few of the first epiodes back to back that way you get more into it and (in my opinion) are more likely to keep watching- i know i would have watched episode 2 if they had played it straight after.

I'll give you the acting - I thought it was fine, but it's subjective, really, and I've been watching True Blood - but production values?

Granted, I did chuckle at the backgrounds in the windows during the L.A.-London phonecall, but overall, I thought the effects were well done and there were some nice shots.

I can just about believe that but as if they've got seven series worth of stories planned out!

They might know how they plan to end it but that doesn't mean there won't be several seasons of filler in the middle like lost.

Yeah, I was wondering if there is some connection with Lost (either the producers or writers) as I saw in the background a poster advertising the Oceanic Airline.....?

I also spotted the Red Panda logo everywhere so thats going to have a lot to do with it I think.

All in all I enjoyed the first episode, altough some of the leaps of deduction made by the characters did seem a little far fetched.

By the way... seeing has people on here are in the know, been watching on Sky 3 a Quantum Leap style programme called Journeyman, anyone know anything about this?

Come on maaaan, don't be so anal! I really enjoyed it, though I'm trying not to get too excited about it after my traumatic experience with Lost... I wasted do much time on that series before I eventually got fed up of watching hour after hour of 'scary' phantoms chasing the noddy survivors around the island.

Wow - Nazis, Kaballah and dead crows, all in one episode! I'm still really enjoying this and I can't wait for the next one! I need to know why he saw his daughter alive? Why the finance of that cop saw him at their wedding, but he has been told he's going to be murdered and didn't see anything? How many more people were involved in the Flashforward - as there are now two people who were awake! The plot thickens....

I have an annoying problem with it. It's that they put a name to the event and it was common usage almost instantly.

I thought Lost was ridiculous. This I like though. On the theories....I'm thinking something similar to a Hadron Collider type thingymajig - or someone coming back from the same time in the future as the fast forward projected.

Or maybe the Gremlins have been messing with someone's TV remote?

I've only caught the first episode, so far, and it certainly looks intriguing.
