Has anyone else been watching this assembling of a choir by Gareth Malone for a BBC2 tv series? I've caught a couple by accident and this was the last one tonight. I've had tears in my eyes at how the lives of quite ordinary people have been enhanced by being moulded into a community choir. Their comments on how it had changed their lives were quite humbling. Thank goodness for people like Gareth Malone. It seemed a thankless task at first, but by the end he was the most popular man in South Oxhey (which btw is a suburb of Watford)

he's run a couple of programmes like this - in one he worked with the most deprived young people - that was awe inspiring

Just been watching him in action again with Northolt School who were formed and over the course of a year moulded and honed to participate in an international choir competition. It's so emotional to see how music captivates and changes the most unlikely people. Wotta guy!
Also, it really showed up just how 'inter racial' we are in UK. Like the Japanese choir were ethnically oriental, essentially looking pretty much like clones of one another, whereas Northolt choir were all shades of skin colour, all sizes and shapes, all working in close harmony. It was really heartwarming. I just wish I could sing!
