Can anyone help me with this?

I got a text message a few days ago that reads as

>/pers

in my inbox. When I press to read it, it goes straight to the "erased" icon i.e. no message. But it remains in my inbox as if it is an unread message.

It's really irritating and I'm worried about it for some reason. Does anyone know what it is and how I can get rid of it?

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi,
I got one of these the other day and it freaked me out for a while too. Just switch your phone off and then on again an that should get rid of it. I'm still not sure where it came from or why though!

Phone your network and ask what they make of it :suspect:
Just in case

I agree with the switch off your phone advice.

Phones these days are so complicated, and run so many programs that they sometimes go and "get their knickers in a twist" and you find they work a whole lot better if they are cleared down and started up again once in a while.

Sometimes you can recieve multimedia messages which behave like that, rather than SMS which are normal text messages.

From Virgin/Nokia Voicemail guide:

Your voicemail service will make sure
that wherever you are, you’ll never miss
a call. What’s more, it’s free to use in the
UK. To use it for the first time:
• Call 222 and listen to the whole message.
• Keep your phone on for 20 minutes. If you
get a text message reading PERS, ignore it.
• Then turn your phone off and back on again.
Now you’re all set to go.

I had one of these when I first joined Virgin & another arrived today. I was due an update text about my text bundle & assumed it was linked to that but I called just incase. I was told not to worry, that it was related to information from the service provider & that it would disappear in the next few days.

A few guys that work here have recently been the victims of Bluettoth viruses that can be sent when your phone is visable to everyone, ie Bluettoth enabled, If it is a contract phone I would contact the operator and get it checked out.
