This subject has been brought up in many of the Blades/Owls threads, it got me thinking.

Which is more important, in respect to football? Would you prefer success at the cost of style, or is fancy football more important to you. IMO there are only a few teams who genuinely manage to use both effectively, Barcelona spring to mind, Man Utd possibly. Sheff U have substance, with inklings of style (in some peoples opinions), Wednesday have style, with inklings of substance (in some peoples opinions).

I think it differentiates a lot as you can't play the same system against every team you come up against, if substance mean's lumping the ball 70 yards then you will only be able to go so far with that sort of tactic as the higher the level the more important it is to keep the ball.
If you mean style as in passing the ball around and one touch passes, 1-2s etc etc, then that is the better as the better team's play "stylish" football.
I think there's only two team's in the whole of the Premiership who play the long ball, Stoke an Bolton, there not exactley going to win the Champion's League any time soon are they playing like they do.
If you have the player's to do it passing football would win every time hand's down no question.
You can play the long ball to get out of the league but playing it in the Premiership will either get you relegated or push you to the lower reaches for sure.

To be honest Id rather see style and if needs must during a game if we need to resort to abit of hoofball to win then so be it.

Although at the moment we want to go for route 1 far too much true it wins us games but yet if it doesnt work we have no plan B.

Does wednesdays supposed brand of football get them anywhere but midtable mediocrity season after season ? Blades supposed hoofball gets them to the Premiership for a season and a couple of play-off finals that we bottled.
which would you prefer ?

Probably the best football side in our division for pure football is Donny Rovers and they dont finish very high in this division either

No Id say West Brom and they get promoted everytime.

They just never buy enough quality to stay up or have a decent enough manager to keep them up.

Donny and Swansea play good football but never have enough quality to finish teams off and that usually boils down to them not having a good enough strikeforce.

It does help having the likes of Messi, Henry and Iniesta in your side too... i'm sure if Stoke had those three instead of Delap, Fuller and Beattie, they'd play a more attractive game too (unless Iniesta's got a good long throw :hihi:).

Lmao im not sure that Barca could cope with Delaps throws to be fair, not forgetting Fullers excellent finishing, 14 shot's no goals that fella has to his name this season lmao.:hihi:

if you ask an arsenal fan what they would prefer to see at the emirates- good passing football or the premiership- you know they would want the premiership.

football is a results game- simple as that!
