View Full Version : Dog walkers - availability near to Dinnington?

We have 2 dogs in boarding at the moment

One is Hector - an english bull terrier character - just recently castrated and a real character. He is a very loving and lovable lad - loves a cuddle and a fuss - but now ready to go for walking as he's so bored.

He is looking for a dog walker thats used to these types of dogs.

Luna - who is under the care of Zep the Dep - and boarded at our kennels. A very gorgeous small rottie girl who was in a bad state when she came into us - but now fully recovered and desperate to be out and walking - and even more desperate to be into a home.

Luna is looking for a dog walker that is used to walking large breeds and that can get her out of kennels for the exercise she needs.

Both dogs are boarded between Dinnington and Wickersley.
People who are interested in walking would need to be able to drive to the kennels, preferrably take the dog out in their car to somewhere a bit nicer for a walk (just 5 mins away and there are some lovely walks, but the kennels themselves are on a very busy non friendly dog walking road).
This is purely for dog walking. Appointments would need to be arranged for the person to go and walk the dog, and we would need to be happy that you are confident in walking this sort of dog. Anyone taking one of the dogs out for a walk would need to first be interviewed by myself or one of the kennel staff - and car keys or copy of passport/driving license left with us for anyone that we don't know.

Payback? That you are helping out with a dog thats in need. Thats seeing nothing but a kennel wall and door for about 23 and a half hours a day - and looking for a new home. In otherwords - helping it on its way.

Anyone interested - please pm me and we can go from there.

I'm sure some of the lovely forummers can spare an hour or so of their time. We've walked Luna a couple of times, and I met Hector for the first time yesterday evening-he's a very very nice looking boy with lots and lots of what Rain describes as "character" :D It's not even that far away-my mum lives in Beighton and we got there little more then ten minutes after we'd taken the dogs back to kennels. They are a lovely pair of dogs that are going to make someone fantastic pets-I wish someone would snap poor Luna up, she's been in kennels for far too long bless her.

I'd agree with the above, walked Luna twice now and she really does grow on you. Yesterday she was lovely and calm to walk. Poor thing is so bored in kennels now, when I put her back in her kennel, she was looking as if saying 'please don't leave me here'.

Hector is a really nice little dog, I liked him when I collected him from Wakefield to take to the kennels.

Neither of them were any trouble to get in and out of the car, just jumped straight up and lay down.

If anyone can get there and take one of these dogs out, they'll appreciate it so much. The kennels do all they can do for them, but as in all boarding kennels, they've loads of dogs and limited time for walking.

As Rain Rescue said, there's plenty of quiet little lanes, the old railway line and Rother Valley is only 10/15mins away. Unfortunately, Ulley Reservoir is closed off at the moment, because that's literally 7-8mins from the kennels.

Even if it's just for 30mins having a wander down one of the lanes near the kennels it's better than nothing, lets them have a sniff and get away from the kennels for a while.

I'm hoping to get up there again soon, but it's a hectic week and I'm busy at the weekend, so it'll probably be a little while :(

Thanks Haddock and Mermaid - once again you two have come up trumps to help these dogs.

It makes me so sad to think of them in kennels hour after hour - hopefully we will be able to get some nice people who are as responsible as you two to be able to get up every now and then whilst they are with us.

Maybe we can do a special appeal for them - Luna has been there so long now.

Hia Kim,
Glad business is going well - Saturday would be great - I will let the kennels know.

best walk them seperate if you are on your own - i don't know how they would react together - Luna jumps at the lead when you start off as she's so bored.

thanks again for the offer

Would any of these kennels be willing to transport these dogs to area's where people walk, who would be happy to walk them, then hand them back?

No thats not feasible Bruno the dogs are in boarding kennels, and the staff have lots of dogs to walk.

By the time they had done that - they could have walked them longer themselves.
Great idea though - if only....

ok was just a thought as with being part of a walking group, it would get quite a few dogs out in one go........ good luck with it tho

They were OK walking together when we took them, but I'd say they'd both be too much for one person. We walked with a bit of distance between us and they were fine, but both being walked by one person would probably be difficult.

Hi all
and thanks for taking the time to walk these two dogs , just a quick update on luna ,she has been to our vets a couple of times first vac and a check up and is at the moment on a course of antibiotics for a dodgy stomach , these finish in few days and and as soon as she can be second vac'd she will be moved into our kennels or into a foster home if one is available at the time .

For those who may remember Luna who was found with Harry , Harry was the one with a bad hair loss . Good news is he is now nearly fully haired apart from a very small strip on his back , Harry has been in his new home 4 weeks now where he has come on in leaps and bounds, he won best rescue at Crew dog show 2 weeks ago and also passed his bronze good citizen award the same day , he came back up to see us at Thornberrry dog show last week .

Dronfielder - that would be great - are you ok with walking dogs?
can you travel? sounds promising

Zep - thanks so much with Luna - poor girl - she is so bored and is ready to give someone a full life now. I will try to get some better pics of her at the weekend if i can. She plays with her toys and had a lovely walk out with Mermaid and Haddock last weekend and was fine walking with little Hector.

Brill news about Harry - and I'm so pleased he has once and for all - found a lovely loving home. Thanks for all the time and effort you and Magsie put into helping these Rotts.

fingers x u manage to find a nice foster home for her to help her on her way

I have walked the neighbours dog for this last year whilst she is at work. (Labrador crossed with a Springer Spaniel). I can travel without a problem, I have a Landrover and can take a dog in this. I would love a dog of my own but my partner does not want one.
