Hello.
I've got a friend who is looking to buy a house. She's seen a really nice one in Upperthorpe. The trouble is, we haven't got a clue what the area is like. I've just seen a thread about abondoned cars there and was a bit worried. Could you please let me know more about the area so I can pass it on to my friend. I know its near Hillsborough and Walkley so i'm hoping its a nice place. Am I right?
Thanks a lot
Zippyz.
Hi Zippyz
I live in Upperthorpe and have never had any trouble there. It is a nice quiet area.
The only trouble I can see is on Westmoreland road (or street) because there is a mechanics garage at the bottom, and they tend to whizz in and out of it quite fast.
Whereabouts is the proposed house? (I'll be able to let you know specifically then)
Cheers
CeeVee
Hi Ceevee.
Thanks for your reply. The house is on Wellfield road. It looks pretty colse to Walkley. It looks likea really nice house, but my friend doesn't know much about the area and neither do I. Any info is most welcome.
Thanks

Nice area for the most part, improving steadily. I have had two houses rented in that area for the past few years and its OK. Couple of rougher streets (which area doesnt?), but some local shops, pubs and a supermarket; and growing community feel to the place. Easy transport into town as well.

Also, the closer to walkley the nicer it gets.
Walkley is a fine area, and Upperthorpe is fast becoming just as good. I think the old Kelvin flats were the worst part years ago but they've been gone for years.
I too live in this area and have a number of houses up the Walkley end and have never had any (human) problems with the area except for the hills!
I think property is still pretty good value here and you tend to get better value for money than in Crookes or higher Walkley. The area is still on the up, and having the Tesco also helps.
