View Full Version : Etienne Esajas!
That little fella changed the game for us. United were by far the better side in the first, but I think Wednesday had the better of the second half.
Cracking goal from Esajas and he could have had a couple more.
Loved it at the end, when he came over to us, telling us to keep our chins up, pointing to the Wednesday badge.
NERVY-OWL 18-09-2009, 22:52 yes, he certainly changed the game, just wish he could consistantly do it

shame he doesn't do it more often he'd be a first team regular!!

Couldn't agree with you more Alty he completey changed game. Laws made big mistake by not playing him in first half. He said afterwards that he was contemplating subbing him in after the 20 mins and I not sure why he didn't. I think we could have had a different game if he had have done. That fella played his socks off tonight.

Although, to be honest, if we hadn't done what we always do which is get in to the lead then sit back and defend, then I reckon Wednesday would have struggled regardless of who was on the pitch.
Like I said to those around me, I was more confident at 0-0 than I was at 3-0 because I know we will sit back and defend and allow teams to come at us.

we would of done the same had we gone ahead aswell, must be a sheffield thing:hihi:
think michael gray needs some credit as well!! had a great game!
what was that about on tudgays t-shirt?

Seems a bit greedy at times, seemed to shoot a few times when there may have been better options available - although after scoring, can't same you'd blame him. Johnson was very poor though, Walker had him in his pocket in the first half. Gray also was non-existent in the first half, but was dangerous for the first 30 mins of the second (United regained control towards the end of that half, after looking all over the place before it!).

all great players are greedy;) i didn't think he was too greedy though, maybe once i noticed it but other than that. gray i can't remember which half he seemed to be good in, definately had a very good second half though. everytime we attacked when we had got the 2nd goal utd looked very dangerous to be fair but grant had a better second half

That's a fair summary. Wednesday started to play the good passing football they can play, at times in the second half. First half, we just hoofed it to Tudgay and Varney and we did nothing.
patrick38 18-09-2009, 23:15 really . no need for that,, dont take it to hard

But you look at some score lines each week and there are teams that put 5 or 6 past others. I think why can't we do that?
We were winning 3-0 tonight at one point. If we attack you and you hit us on the break then fair enough. But if we attack and make it 4 then where do you go? You have to open yourselves up and take a risk.
I don't think I'll ever see us scoring 5,6 or 7 goals at the Lane because of how defensive we go when winning.
missymoo73 18-09-2009, 23:18 Are you really 38?

i know what you mean, i don't think wednesday will ever score that many either, we sit back to even when we're only 2 up like against barnsley. you did only go 3 up in the last few mins of the first half though, not really enough time to really go for a 4th and obviously after the half time break laws had chance to sort the players out

He did, but you could see that we weren't going to hound you like we did in the first half.
I still stand by the theory that if we'd had a go in the second half, no Wednesday sub would have made that much of a difference.
But my point about a 4th is why couldn't we have scored early in the second half instead of you?

i know what you mean and it's so infuriating when your team does it. i agree if you had really had a proper go you could of got the forth and then esajas wouldn't of had chance to make his mark but i think we played well enough anyway to stop you getting another, at least in the 30 mins after halftime

Agreed. When you got it down and started to play, you did look dangerous - something that a lot of teams seem to do well against us.
It's hard being a Blade and watching everyone else!

He didnt change owt really. United had the lead and came out relaxed like we were gonna win it.
Uniteds attitude must change when were infront.

Maybe you were relaxed, but Wednesday did play well second half. It could quite easily have been 3-3, but could also have been 5-5:hihi:
Great game for sky

Yup. We murdered you in the first half; you nearly did a Lazarus in the second by nearly doing the same. I also think that Wiley could have a new job as a croupier in a poker tournament. Several unwarranted cards.
Esajas certainly looked a handful, but the goal was down to Bunn's first real blunder in a Blades shirt. Terrible positioning. To say we missed Killa is an understatement.

Whilst nothing can be taken for granted, and that is the important bit, when you lead 3-0 at half-time, you must fancy your chances a bit!
By the way, the last time United led 3-0 against Midweek at half-time in a League match was in ..... 2009. From what I can see there was a County Cup match just after the War which had us 3-0 up, but not a League match.
In fact, I don't think either side has had such an advantage at half-time in the League.

The scoreline suggests you were 'murdering' us, but overall play was not so one sided, our poor defending gave you lot the game by half time, I don't mind admitting defeat on this occasion but to suggest you 'murdered' us in the first half is a tad misleading, United were the better side first half, Wednesday were the better side second half !
With regard to Esajas, I have always liked the lad, people doubt his ability to be consistant but there are others who have the same problem, jj being one of em
Grandad.Malky 20-09-2009, 17:44 Great game for sky
I wonder if that means they will be showing part 2 in April, I supose it will depend if there is anyrthing to play for as they will be showing all the crucial games that late in the season.

i hope not! if it isn't on sky then the armchair fans will have to go if they really want to watch.
as for esajas he should start. even though he can be as inconsistant as jj, he has a much better shot on him

Looking at the BBC sport and text from the first half I just don't see how you've murdered us unless you are basing this on goals scored, in which case no team who lose can argue they deserved something from a game.

Instead of looking on the internet ask anyone that was there, it looked like a walk in the park and we expected a cricket score, fair dues to Laws, I don’t know what he said to your lot but a “different” team came out for the second half.

Sadly this happens to us all too often. I've lost count of the number of times we've had a shocker of a half and a very decent one in the same game. That's the second time in a derby game already this season when we've done it, after the Barnsley second half debacle.
Perhaps Laws should try to motivate us to play for 90 minutes instead of 45.

Either that, or get a centre back and a full back on scene who know how to defend.
