Have a little problem here
Can only briefly explain it

I have a AMD 64 3400+ running with 1024GB of PC3200 DDR 400 ram two 20GB hard drives running and a DVD-RW drive on a ASROCK K8 motherboard and a ATI Radeon Graphics card 9250 128MB

Now when I go to install windows because my computer kept saying file missing or corrupt the Windows/System32/Config

I don’t mess around just re install windows as its easier than to try working it out

Anyways I load up windows XP pro from Disk (A brand new copy) and it askes the usual stuff I go with C: drive and NTFS(Quick)
Formats not a problem and then it copies the files over now on different points of the install a big Blue dump screen appears
Cant remember what it says but if someone could say what it was then I could tell you all I remember (drunk) was something about drivers for the Graphic bin installed so I changed graphics cards to a ATI sapphire 256MB card and still it does the same
Also tried different hard drives

It could be the Ram if it is what stop message would I get up

Sorry its so vague
I do know the problem was it Kept rebooting every so often

i couldnt quite work your post out. but i think you say you have formatted?

if not:

- are you moving a HDD with windows already on it to a new setup?

if the answer to the above is yes, its gonna be easier to format, or repair if need be.

if you have formatted and you still get this problems:

- have you tried slowing the ram timings down
- running one stick of ram (try both individually)
- tried disabling any onboard sata/raid functions not in use
- disabling HT on the cpu
- tried a different video card

You wont get a particular stop message as such, technically you might get the same memory address listed but if you are getting a blue screen then writing the number down won't really help. As mentioned, easiest thing you can do is try installing windows with only 1 stick of RAM in (assuming you have more than one) it could be RAM, system board, processor.
Try different RAM first and also do a full format not a quick format of the drive.

Try that and see how you get on is what I would do.

I'd suggest it's a RAM issue.
This once had me going for a couple of days during a PC build. Tried 3 different CDROM drives and umpteen XP disks before realising it was the memory.

It seems that the files being copied were being corrupted in memory, failing the CRC checks once it hit the disk.

memtest86 diagnosed a memory fault.

I had this problem recently and it turned out to be the hard disk drive. Although It was a second hand one! I replaced it with my spare downloads hard disk out of my main pc and it installed fine then.

To be honest you're probably going to have to try using spares for every possible component to know for sure. Since you've tried the graphics card and the hard disk, that leaves the memory as the next best suspect I would say.

What nee'k said really :)

I'd be surprised if the video card caused this fault.

To echo most other people on this thread, I suspect the memory first, the hard disk second. If you've already swapped the hard disk, it will more than likely be a dodgy stick of memory.
