i decided in a moment of weakness to subscribe to one of those 3 pounds a week for so many ring tones to my horror this morning ive been texed 8 times overnight also 15 quid has been deducted from my phone ...... now this is where it gets strange

on one of the texes it gives you a option to unsubscribe , which i did but the cheeky twits are still sending me the flipping texes ive now got a grand total of 50p left on my phone

should i just put it down to experience and just change the sim card or is there a way of making a complaint

:help:

My sister got one ringtone for £1.50 and they kept sending them.....she left her txt msg memory full for about a fortnight. Very annoying for her but it cured the problem, couldn't find any other way to block them

Unsubscribing from services
To unsubscribe from any reverse-billed service you simply need to send the word STOP to the short code number (e.g. send the word STOP to the number 82828 ). It does not matter if you use capital letters or not. It is important that you only send the word STOP - any other word, phrase or characters may not work.

If sending the word STOP does not work, we want to know about it, together with the other necessary information detailed above. We will then be able to find out why the command has not worked and, if necessary, take action against the company responsible.

This from the ICSTIS website:

http://www.icstis.org.uk/icstis2002/default.asp?node=11

Which you can also use to make a complaint.

If they're like all of the other complaints procedures it's probably a waste of time and will take more trouble than the costs you're complaining about

How can they take money off your credit for text messages they've sent?
It's like reversing the charges without consent!? :o

Tried it. The 82050 number where you answer a whole string of questions in the hope of winning a kids bike or something. But once you have had a go at one they send you them constantly, along with the message to send "Stop" - which will cost you 50p but they are supposed to stop sending you texts.

I'm still getting them and they are so annoying. I got the number from sky - one of the kids channels - when I attempted to win a playstation for my step son. I did not win and now endure calls at all hours telling me so and so has won this and so and so has won that.

It never ends. Grrrrrr!

Tell me about it. And all of these customer services departments, complaitns procedures, conciliation services, ombudsman services are the biggest waste of time which all duck out of addressing the core issue.

Why are they allowed to advertise on Sky and in supposedly reputable magazines too? :suspect:

C'mon companies! Where's your sense of responsibility? :loopy:

What on earth makesyou think that these companies have got a sense of responsibility? They dont care and if you take them to court, unless it's a very small claim, you'll probably find they'll win because they can afford top solicitors and legal counsel. That's the way the system works.

And isn't that a really sad indictment of our society?

We keep going back for more.......

Couldnt agree with you more. The even sadder fact is despite years of searching, I have seen little to suggest otherwise. If its a choice of organisations paying out a notional amount of compensation early or making your life hell regardless of the rights or wrongs and how much it costs, with deepest regret I'd advise anyone to be prepared for the latter.

That said it would make a very pleasant change to hear of problems resolved within days of the incident which may be the exception rather than the norm.

Phone up your network and MAKE them get them stopped - if you threaten to change networks it will work.

DK - that is how text message industry works, example if you vote text for something, you will have your network charge taken off you for the vote you send, and you will recieve a billing message that says 'thanks for your vote' which charges you - its the same for ringtones.

That is how it works - they say 'Free Ringtone' and the ringtone is free (pushed out via WAP) but they send you charged messages saying 'waiting to process your order'

If you look at the small print of adverts on tele it says 'you will be subscribed to a club for 1/50 three times a month' and 'errors will be billed' etc.

It just goes to show theres no such thing as a free ringtone!!

I got the Kanye West single "Diamonds" (not for that song, but theres 2 remixes on it that I wanted). Well anyway, it said on the cd case that i could get a free ringtone, no subscription, if i text a number. And cos i did one before for free i thought it'd be ok. So i texted it and i got a text back saying "text missing". I receieved no ringtone, and amazingly I was charged £4.20 for receiveing one text message! Aaaarrrrgghhhh!

I've sent the company an email because ringing them up would cost me even more!

Gee, I wonder what my chances of a reply are? I may have to just cut my losses and just never do it again!

If you want the plain truth, which you may not then its Zilch. You could try writing a complaint to the Ofcom regulator and then they'll pass your complaint over to the relevant company as an Ofcom-referred complaint. All that means is the company has to have a special department which deals with ofcom referred complaints. They are generally fobbed off in just the same way as every one else but their files are marked "handle with kid gloves" :D

Also I think i'd be inclined to block incoming text and other messages from them in case they do reply and send it by text in which case that will cost you another £4.20 and that adds up to a lot of dosh very quickly

Actually the text regulator is called ICSTIS. You can find them here (http://www.icstis.org.uk) .

Although the words 'chocolate' and 'fireguard' spring to mind :|

Don't forget that if people don't report complaints to them, nothing will ever get done.

Totally agree cgksheff. Should have said that and then added not to expect anything because they use confidentiality to work on the basis of divide and rule; they're extremely good at that.

No, I wasnt suggesting not to complain to them

Just saying make sure you get your network to get on the case as well, since just complaining to ICSTIC probably won't get messages stopped as quickly.

If you phone them, and argue enough they will stop, and ask them for a refund. make sure they double check that they have unsubscribed you, even if it means phoning back. I did it with jamster after i got subscribed to they by reasons unknown to me.
